Had some trouble watching it cause internet keeps failing me, but that kid is awesome! It's very common to see dancing baby's here, they seem to be born a sense of rhythm, but this kid's the best!

For those wondering about the fan noise, do you guys have a rattling noise from the right fan (the one under the touch buttons) when you move the laptop? Mine sounds like the fan is hitting the intake mesh thing and makes rattling/vibrating noise. I only have a basic warranty, would i still be able to get the fan replaced? And how do i transfer my warranty from the US to Australia and get it fix there?

Sorry for picking up a later part of the convo, my timezone puts me anywhere from 8+ hours ahead of most of you but 8 hours behind on convos :p

I would have it changed as well.
What I did was register my product, change the location on the website to my actual location and give Dell a call to make sure the location was changed. Worked like a charm as I had to have the DVD drive replaced and it was done within a day, no problem whatsoever.

Just writing some info I got on the warrantys today while ordering the M11x R1 :O, didn´t have enough time to wait for the R2 because I´m leaving the US 7/3... So the thing, if you have the basic warranty you are NOT able to upgrade it to advanced, which another rep told me -.-. So just thought it could be good info for some people if they didn´t know, like me.

And yea like the others said, you should get it fixed :)!

Ok thanks for the input guys. It's not a major issue, but I'll get it fixed once I get back to Australia and have an address there.

And gratz on the M11x Rasmusbjork!

So...I've discovered yet another problem with my m15x performance...

This is a bit more disconcerting than the keyboard noise and fan clacking at load...

Three times now I've booted up and immediately after the login screen, windows opens up and I get a Grey Screen! It won't re-boot itself, like a normal BSOD, I have to power off then on again.

Also, I've noticed some inconsistencies when trying to play WoW..and this may be a driver/compatibility issue. But I've noticed every once in a while I log in and my framerates are EXTREMELY choppy. In Dalaran I usually get between 35-50 fps...but when this occurs, it's around 15-20...and even dips into the sub teens. I know people have had issues with StealthMode, but I have checked and re-checked...StealthMode is OFF everytime this happens and I've even got the 5850 startup clocked at 700/1000 on every boot, using AMD GPU TOOL. The only way I can fix it is to completely re-boot the system. Re-starting WoW, or refreshing my GPU clocks DOES NOT HELP.

This thing is starting to turn into a $2000 paper-weight!!!

Well guys, I'm sad to say I'll be returning my M15x. After playing around with my engineering applications for a while, I think I need a desktop with a faster i7 and a Quadro card.

I've had a mostly positive experience with this laptop, and if I was primarily a gamer, I definitely would have kept it.

Alright, guys, I'm (kinda unofficially, just placed the order in :D ) an owner.

After 2 days, and hours of haggling, I finally got it down to this:

    1 Alienware M15x, Cosmic Black
    1 Intel Core i5-540M 2.53GHz (3.06Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)
    1 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz 2 x 2048MB
    1 15.6-inch WideHD+ 1600x900 (900p) WLED
    1 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5850
    1 250GB SATAII 7,200RPM
1 Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
    1 Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
    1 Primary - 9-cell (85Watt) Lithium-Ion Battery

    Total Price: $1375.51

Without sales tax, of course. Free 3-5 Business day shipping (it was either free NBD shipping or an additional $25, so I chose the $25).

What do you guys think? Good deal? That's $55 more off than the 10% off EPP and the $100 coupon, without having to sign up for the DPA. 19% total savings, not counting free shipping. Is this price something I should be proud/happy with? It's a laptop for college (biochemistry) so should be more than powerful.

Set to ship on July 1, and arrive on July 7th, but I heard everyone gets their computers before the ETA arrival time anyway. Or do you think I could still call and get Expedited NBD shipping?

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the price.
Soon to join this club.

EDIT - BTW, if anyone wants to deal with an awesome Dell rep, let me know, I'll pm you his info. He wanted me to give his contact info out, the guy was really helpful.

I'm a network administrator at my civilian job, (Presently activated with the Hawaii Air National Guard) and when I get back and bring in my M11X (We're allowed to have a personal computer hooked up to the non-DoD network) my co-workers will all want to rush out and get one. :p

The M15X I just ordered will be my primary system once I get back home.

I've been having trouble with the on screen display lately. I know that it doesn't work after you sleep the computer, but it seemed to have stopped working after playing a game or something today. I don't remember sleeping the computer today either, it was working when i booted out of hibernate. Is there anything I can do to get the OSD to work, or is this something that i should just ignore and live with?

Nice setup, but should have just gotten 4 GB of RAM. 8 GB is completely overkill. Everything else looks good. I'm guessing you got the 1080p screen with the blu-ray drive?

EDIT: Anyone try the 10.6 drivers with the M15x? Any solution to the big cursor problem?

i have but im still using the 197.31 M17X beta drivers from dell for sound issues. also the 257 drivers both ive had odd glitches so their not perfect unlike 197.16 or .45 so its only until you test them can you like them or hate them.

Can anyone confirm that the GTX260M can only output to a max of 2048x1536?

If that's all it can muster, I'm going to be kicking myself for not waiting longer for the 5850.

Been looking at large monitors (specifically the Dell ultrasharp 3008WFP) to replace my current external monitor & TV, and not supporting the full 2560x1600 resolution would be a large kick in the teeth, as well as another £275+ to upgrade the card.

I decided to catch up on the latest and greatest in the mouse polling issue and found that a Dell rep is trying to help us out.

I'm currently in the process of moving, so I can't submit this now.

I do have a question tho,
What do I put for the "Touchpad testing" part?
