Looking forward to reading about your findings with the new card!
Really tempting price if it can perform as described.

Lets see. Looks really good card for the M15x if it works well.

980M doesnt play nice in M15x. Too hot. So this could be the final upgrade folks...barring some kind of miracle...

What about AMD? I don't really follow it as much as I should. I do like that there is no need to mod an inf file to get it to work. At least not with the AMD cards I have tried.

K4000M matched to 675MX frequency basically scores the same, and it's "more or less" the same cards with same amount of VRAM, memory bandwidth, amount of shading units, TMU's and ROP's.

We may expect M4000M to be a great plun-n-play card, at least i had no any issues to install a bit older Quadro on Kepler. I dont think that this 'll be an issue with Maxwell. Drivers for Quadro cards should work out of the box, and card should fit M15x perfect (all ram placed only by one side). But there is no any modded VBIOS as far i see, so we will have limited ability to OC this card. At least until somebody do the mod.

Chip in a little cash to Prema and that would be doable.

For its extra ROPs and extra bandwidth it shouldnt be too difficult for him.

Perhaps see how it performs as standard. Then ask if Prema can unlock the card at standard voltage for one vbios and another with a small voltage bump with core also bumped to match 970M.

Deadsmiley you are really great for trying this out for the community. Thank you so much!

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the 7970m DP working on the m15x?
Every now and then I connect my laptop to living room tv and game on the sofa. Just wondering if this will work with both audio & video with the card?

Just wondering, can I chuck in 16GB ram with a 720qm or will I need the 920xm in to take advantage of this? I know the bios will read 0GB but wondering if the 720 will work with it?

That's great ta. Have 4GB at the moment. There was only a few quid between the 8GB and the 16GB so just went for the 16.
Should be here today so will test it out when I get home from work.

Seems people have it working with the 720qm which is nice.

Just scored a Dell 210w adapter aswell last night for a bargain so will come in handy when I get the 920xm & 7970m.

16GB will work with 720,740,820,840,920 and 940 chips. Basically all 4 core 1st gen mobile i7s. I say 4 core because there is also the i7 620 and 640 BUT these are only 2 core and thus won't support 16gb ram.

I would love to know if 32gb would work. I doubt it but would be nice to find out!

    Cheers King,
Would like to know meself about 32GB, could never imagine a situation where I would even need that amount though, ha.
Glad about the 16gb on the 720. Can just chuck it in whilst I eagerly await the 920xm.

I have a 640 in my M4500 and can confirm 16GB does not work. I tried it before I bought my Sager. The need for more RAM for VMs was the driving force behind getting a new laptop.

I might pick up a new 920xm. I think mine is toast.

Pcie express only runs at pci 2.0 x8 on 2 different motherboards....under load.

New gpu would benefit from x16 over x8.

Any other ideas why this could be happening?

If you mean replacing the optical drive with a 2nd hard drive and adding a USB 3.0 Expresscard in the Expresscard slot, then yes. I'm using one of the cheap Chinese ones with 3 USB 3.0 ports and I am running a WD black in my optical drive slot.

KOI: what app is reporting the graphics card at PCI-e 2.0 speeds. I usually have an issue with GPU-Z reporting the speed as x16 1.1 under load instead of x16 2.0 but still at PCI-e 3.0.

Gpuz is. It always used to display it correctly as pci 2.0@ x16 under load now only pci 2.0@ x8. It drops to 1.1 at idle as it should.

    M15x doesnt feature pci 3.0.

Yup stihial that is how it used to run :( it isnt thermally related or power related that is for certain.

Decided to go for the 970M upgrade! As this card is end game for the m15x be daft not to just go for that instead of upgrading twice.
Does anyone know any sellers (that ship to the UK) for the card? Struggling to find a seller. Thanks :)

Its a bit early to say end game.

M4000m alone is already a bump up at a good price ovee 970M.

Also amd have released what looks like a fully unlocked RX470 chip for mobile. This might end up on mxm.

That would be at around desktop 970 level.

Lets see between now and christmas. Iam going to wait and see :)

    Morning all.
Just seeing if anyone knows where to obtain the correct x bracket for a 970m that's come from a clevo?
Also is this plug and play with the m15x or will it a new vbios etc?

It will be plug n play. However as with all Nvidia cards you will have to mod the inf file in the driver to get it to install.

Easy and plenty of guides out there :)

Read the 970m thread today so pretty comfortable with the inf mod.

Interested in the custom bios to unlock the beast.

The Clevo X bracket works with the M15x. All you need is proper screws. You can get these at RJTech.com for about $7 or you can source them elsewhere.

Premamod.com for GTX 970M VBIOS files.

Go to techpowerup.com to download the Windows version of nvflash which is a command line application.

Be sure to backup your stock vBIOS before flashing the modded one.

Go into Device Manager and disable the GTX 970M before you backup and flash the new vbios.
