Oh... 4GB DDR3 @ 1333mhz is enough ram... right? or should I upgrade on my own later to 6 or 8 gb?

IMO, 4GB of Ram is more than enough (2 x 2GB). Unless you are going to be running virtual environments with ram intensive programs you won't come close to the 4GB limit. You can disable your page file with 4GB of ram and never have to worry about a page file on the HDD slowing you down.
***8GB of ram can be nice if you are using that software utility program to create a partition in your ram memory that you can use as a super fast hard drive. Then the space could be useful. -
4gb is plenty .......
and the guy who said the price was high need to go buy asus or something else not a BOUTIQUE brand .... -
4 GB is plenty enough RAM in my opinion. + RAM isn't that costly of an upgrade if you decide you want more in the future!!
-
No I meant 2x4gb i just wasn't specific in my statement. But I'm not planning on overclocking and to be honest i'm not sure what exactly that means. lol
btw does anyone have any pics of an AW cpu upgrade so i can know what to expect? or is there a similar notebook that I can use as a guide? -
In case people missed it in the News and Reviews forum Chaz gave us some info on how the 4870s will work in the M17x.
So it will have switchable graphics but will require a reboot to go from ATI cards to Nvidia Chipset and vice versa.
That's okay I suppose by my cynicism now worries that switchable graphics may not be the only thing that won't work smoothly in that combo and the Nvidia chipset may kneecap the performance of CrossfireX a bit. -
read the first post and download the service manual.....
-
When is the final review of the m17x Expected? The Benchmarks are going to be interesting...
-
i will write a guide as soon as i get mine or help you with it.
the service manual that tells you how is on the first page -
thanks sleey0
-
Does that mean that switching from nvidia cards to the another nvidia card won't require a reboot or is the same case like how the macbook pro operates?
-
????????
-
Switching from the 260Ms or 280Ms to the integrated 9400M will not require a reboot on the M17x. I believe when you unplug the power it's supposed to automatically switch.
Unplugging the power in an M17x with ATI cards will also attempt to switch to the 9400M integrated graphics but will require a reboot of the notebook to do so. -
....
..... yes
-
you do not need a reboot when switching between an nvidia card and the nvidia integrated graphics. You will need a reboot if you have the ati solution switching to the nvidia integrated and vice verse.
-
Macbook Pro 17" Early 2009
Integrated: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M (MCP79)
Discrete: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
Integrated: minimum 256 MB shared with system memory
Discrete: 512 MB GDDR3 SDRAM
Since the two cards are both NVIDIA it is done on the fly. -

Moo.... Phinagle.... Where are you guys getting your avatars from?
-
tell apple to start doing that
-
Well you still have to log out and back on to take that affect
-
Apple The trend setting solution! LoL..

here's how their hybrid sli works

That was a Late 2008 Model of the Macbook Pro. During that time the OS was around 10.5.5 - 10.5.6. The 2009 Models internal firmware settings should of resolved that issue. As with the 10.5.7 release should make switching from Discrete to dedicated easier.. But again, not everything should work like its supposed to.
-
????
should be ..."But again, not everything works like its supposed to." -
I don't know what i was thinking! Clearly.. nice.

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
finally my order has been processed!
Estimated Delivery Date is on or before: 08/07/2009
an alienware will be mine in one month. i cant believe it. it was my dream for 3 years now. -
that is 2 months
-
is it wrong to quote for emphasis here?
-
yea I think you meant to put a 7 in the place of the 8
lolz xD
EDIT: Bahaha, I haven't QFE'd in months -
We, as Americans, are ignorant sometimes.
In Europe, the date is written dd/mm/yy. -
l0l i see that now ...
sorry
-
That's not ignorance. How would we know he's European?
-
Seeing as how europeans are everywhere in these threads, I think when someone says they wil have there system in 1 month from now and there EDD is 8/7/09 says it all.
-
good save
i see retarded people all the time on here though (sometimes me but still) -
I called Dell spare parts to see what they sell the x9100 for and they told me $2K!
Anyone have an 85% off coupon? lol! -
$2000!
Heck, at those prices I'll sell mine for $1500! lol -
Can buy a second M17x for $2K.
-
Still wouldn't have the x9100.....a Dell refurb just popped up on eBay. I'll try to get that.
-
Done. I guess I'll be one of the first to see if the x9100 even works in this system.
-
I wonder if Dell covers that under a warranty. I guess the seller would've had to have a warranty on it that he could then transfer to you through Dell.
G'Luck. +reps waiting for you. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
come on guys if it was two months i would have cancelled already. ;-)
-
Seems like it. Hefty price difference though. If the q9000 isn't that much worse in terms of performance than the qx9300, I might have to go with the former.
-
lol there will be a big difference ...
the QX is already .53 ghz's faster and add the OC ing ghz's to that and your lookin possibly 1.0 ghz faster then a q9000
but if i or some one else can find PLL it may be able to be overclocked -
i await your outcome...
btw rob...like yur new avatar...
-
Found this X9100 on ebay for $430.
Thanks ryujin, seemed like everyones been changing lately.
-
Thanks Rob. I actually just bought one from someone in Texas for $335.
-
Cool. I think you're gonna be pleased with the X9100!
-
Well... The pre-production bios have FSB settings, M1730 was overclockable in bios so...
Till someone get a retail M17X in hands we can't be 100% sure about not having "official" overclock in non extreme processors and i believe in miracles
-
is it possible to turn off the light in front of the laptop or they have to be turn on?
-
You can turn them all off. Or you can turn 1/3 or 2/3 of them off.
-
basically you can do whatever you want with the lights
