This would be my pick if I could have my way, might do some research on airbrushing anodized aluminum surfaces and give it a go![]()

sweeeeet.....
id get carbon fiber in a heart beat...at least gunmetal at a minimum...
thx for the work Praze.... -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Hey Praze did you use photoshop??? If you did how did you do the overlay to keep the lighting?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I just started using the new Photoshop... So it's a little strange for me, stuff isn't where it used to be
-
nice work praze, that deep red looks REALLY nice. Too bad in the vid it looks like their aiming for a more shallow red.
-
no that was the lighting look in the pictures and interviews its a deep red
-
o that's good news then! Making me think twice about waiting for news on a m15x refresh if they do release that deep red color option.
-
well so far its rumored to be cut as an option.
but it could be for the ATI model coming out -
Hey MrButterBiscuits, yeah I use Photoshop CS2, the way I get the rest of the laptop/shadow/background all preserved is by creating a duplicate of the background layer (so you have 2 layers of the laptop picture), then apply a mask to the top most (background copy) layer. After the mask is set up and is masking all of the keyboard/black areas/background/alien head/side ports/etc. I can start coloring what's left over, the silver surfaces. Best way to do this and have it look natural is to go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation and click the "Colorize" option. From there you can play around with the hue/saturation/lightness sliders till you get the desired effect. For the gunmetal and white variations I used the Brightness/Contrast menu instead. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need clarification
*Edit* If you're using CS3, these options may be in completely different locations as I'm clueless on CS3 currently... $650 is a lot! lol -
Dell sent me an email this morning (uk) to say they were out of stock of.....2 year accidental damage support! I can opt for 3 year accidental damage support at extra cost or cancel my order.
I gotta go to work so will deal with it later! -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Opt for the extra!!! But seriously how do they run out of warranties??? lol
-
???????????????
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Ouch, yeah, that's tough, there has been a huge shortage of warranties lately, the warranty manufacturers union is on strike right now, and pretty soon dell's supply of all warranties will run dry, so you better get that 2 year while they still have em on the shelves... -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea that's what I did before... But how did you do the mask.. A layer mask??? Then I only have two options, that is hide all or reveal all lol
-
ok guys im thinking of maxing out my system then selling
i found a qnqg processor and i can get 4gb ram for 450 and max it out and sell for 2000
what do yall think? -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Hmmm, I don't really know how much more luck that will give you, you really want to keep it under 1800, or will people will be drawn straight to the new M17x, not becuase it is better than what you are offering, just newer... Such are the way things work
-
bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Yeah I really hate to say it moo, but with the new M17x out and all, and no GPU upgrade path for the M17, you're not going to get the price you want for it unfortunately.
-
yes i will because im only asking 1400- 1500 lol
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
yea he will, No I mean't don't upgrade and then charge 2000
-
Sorry if this is getting old for anyone, I'm just having too much fun with it, lol...
Here's some more! Maybe I should get a job over at Falcon Northwest...

SPAWN!!! Now will you help me plz praze
lol
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Ah ok I meant if you want to change the CPU and sell it for 2000, I don't think you would get that, but 1400 "as is" is pretty good. -
lol i should its what Don and Axe man got
- the HD space -
Sry, I just replied to your message. Guess I'm kinda new to the site so these random private messages go unnoticed sometimes, lol. I'll do better, I promise
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I have a feeling you'll be right at home
Welcome Welcome Welcome!!! See I was already treating you Like I do everyone else, a means to achive something

What do you guys think of the M17x getting a dx11 GPU upgrade near the end of the year when Nvidia release their latest GPU's and if ATI finally decides to make the 4870 GDDR5 a reality, think they will be upgrade options?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
No, heat issues....
Hey praze I was able to use the Magnetic lasso to exempt parts using the mask... is that what you meant? -
heat issues?
Butters you dont even have the system ....
GPU's will not run much hotter due to the MASSIVE die shrink that will happen -
Megacharge Custom User Title
I mean the 75W MXM3.0b M17x all powerful, sorry I guess I didn't make that clear...
-
Yeah, magnetic lasso works too, there's no real way to get it absolutely perfect on the first pass with such a dynamic image, takes a little tweaking after the lasso tool to get the mask right on. After the mask is g2g though, you should save it as a psd and use it as a template, that way you can crank em out real fast
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Yes, Nvidia will be going to 45nm end of the year, although they are not out yet, I'm quite positive it wont exceed 75W, thermals "shouldn't" be an issue, I'm more concerned over Alienware/Dell support, what do you guys think?
-
they will push for the upgrade.... just look how much money they are puring into this laptop as far as advertising and design
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
My thoughts as well, I just wanted to know I wasn't the only one who thinks this way, I really want to get this laptop, but I want to be sure it will upgrade past 280M's because dx11 is almost around the corner, and I would hate to be stuck with GPU's that don't fully support it. -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
The Color doesn't want to fully adapt, I am using the saturation sliders now, and using selective color as white (I'm using your white base model
)
What I am getting is a bleached effect, the color is light in the top, and white lower, so it looks like the sun is reflecting off a shiny surface... U know what I mean? -
i would say only 50% of people use dx 10
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
OMG!!! lol I thought you said M17 as in the ATI, crossfire laptop! My bad, We can only hope it will since it has a great cooling system and the MXM 3.0b slots -
Megacharge Custom User Title
lol Yeah I thought that's what you thought I meant. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
You are probably right there, however, I'm a connoisseur of longevity and I would feel much more comfortable knowing my GPU's can roll 100% in dx11, if not, I would feel like I am missing something. -
There gonna fire some people if you only want 2 years. If you decide for three they'll keep them around longer. lol!
-
Maybe try turning the lightness slider down to -35 or so, use the saturation in moderation, as it's the culprit in that bleaching effect, I'm sure.
-
Do one that fits the theme of Alienware. Maybe using one of their wallpapers.
-
I was thinking that same thing, will do
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Hmm I wonder if I could do the same thing with GIMP, it's been a while since I used it, I have a few ideas of new looks for the M17x.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Oh crap what I am doing is selective color... that isn't right is it??? Do I just want to mess with hue/sat?
