I've been hearing strange intermittent buzz sounds every now and then on the front of the system, does anyone know what that is?
I think it MIGHT be the hard disk sounds, but i'm not that sure.

Tried hypothesis : Remove FreeFall Accellerometer Driver
It should be called Accelerometer in the control panel
Will be monitoring the progress as i thought i heard it again. but i can confirm the sound is lessened now.
Verdict : Failed. Will call Dell to check on this issue

Yeah I hear the same, weird sound I went to Dell's site and updated my sound driver since I did a fresh windows 7 install and it seems to not help at all. Anyone experiencing the same problem and know a solution?
-
Buzzing or stuttering.. ?
-
nivaku you have ssd and still get that sound? strange... I have never hear any buzzing or anythin like it, with reg hdd or sdd.
-
Sound is coming from the audio, not from the SSD. It's weird though the little things matter because it's the little things that annoy me
-
I updated the audio driver (i installed it over the current one) but it didnt seem to fix the buzz/blip sound
-
Is the system doing anything in particular when you hear the noise?

LunatikBunnie, whats the computer doing when it begins to buzz? -
Well i dont have an m15x, but my machine emits a high pitch whine or occasionally a buzz if the fans are changing speed (upping mainly) or the HDD is in use, some interference from that can come from the speakers.
-
just idling, i'm recording this as i type into the forum. check the attachment.
check the 7th and 45th second in the sound clip, the end is where i tap on the laptop, hoping it'd emit more sounds.

*further note, now it emits more often when i DONT record it (graah, also, i'm recording with iphone, as to lessen the causes of the blips) -
It's hard to hear. Is it there when you unplug the AC adapter?
-
Also is your laptop on a flat surface? I've found that if mine isn't the fan can rub real briefly and make a noise as well.

My GPUs whine when I run distributed computing process like BOINC using CUDA. I know it's not the same laptop, but I've got the same GPUs.
-
it does that whine even WHEN i have the AC plugged in/out, flat surface/uneven surface and irregardless of whether i have any open applications at all!
Should there be any cause for alarm on the weird sound?
Note : i DID send my laptop in for a GPU swap last month. they took 2 weeks to change it because they claimed they wanted to show the newbies at dell on this 'new laptop'. and when it returned, the battery indicator button(9-cell) was damaged(by them, obviously) then they sent a deliveryman to change my battery. Since then, my lappie has been emitting these noises -
Why in the world would they do that with a customer's laptop. I'm sure they have test systems to play with. I would have told them they are not training on your nickle.
-
well, that's that, so i just need to fix this weird buzz sound first.if i pressed my ears onto the touchpad area(left hand side) it'd have tiny buzzsounds all around inside. it MIGHT be the HDD, i'm not sure
-
My m17x has the "electrical hum" in the audio as well; it's only audible when there's nothing else playing so I tend to ignore it.
I know it hasn't always been there, but I can't remember when it became noticeable. I am running the latest IDT drivers supplied by Dell (had to, factory drivers where hanging on start-up and eating 70% CPU) and the newest nVidia beta drivers (PowerMizer disabled and clocks locked in).
Still, there's sometimes an audible click when first playing something if nothing has been audible for some time and the hum appears in the silence following (goes away after a bit, but then the click occurs the next time something audible happens).
Feels like an issue in the IDT audio driver; wouldn't surprise me too much. -

i would, if the loading time in games would be so fasst that i dont have anything else to do xD
-
i ve been getting strage buzzing noise from my M15x during game play. would that be from my fan or the graphics card? and should i be worried about it?
-
Is it the same as the one i posted?
-
no its not from the speaker.

I've had a weird noise coming from the left side of the M15x as well (I think there is a link in the Owner's Lounge thread somewhere). I spoke several times to Support, and finally I got a message that I should update my HDD's firmware. I did and the sound is gone, but soon after A03 bricked my laptop ... just great.
-
Where can i find the said HDD firmware?
-
I have to double-check in my emails, but it was on the dell support site, not sure whether it was laptop specific driver, but search for a "Seagate clicking sound fix".
If I find the email, I'll post it here -
Hmm, i removed the Free Fall Accellerometer driver, and the buzzing dissapeared @_@
Edit: Didnt work, the thing is still buzzing. -
I want to disable that crappy driver too... how did you do it? You have the Seagate 500GB yeah?
-
I have the buzzing as well, like every 3 seconds.
-
after searched around the forum, surprised to see that only a few people had the sizzle/high pitched/buzzing like sound. i am pretty sure it's not the hard drive's clicking sound and the HD that i got has no free fall.
