I noticed there's a new AW CC application as per the Dell drivers site here, released on '03-07-2012'. Upon trying to download it, I'm getting an error: "File not found.". Is anyone else getting this? Is there a mirror of this file elsewhere? Also, when I check for updates from Command Center, nothing shows up!

The download works fine for me. Would you like me to upload it to Mediafire for you?

Sure, please do.. Also, could you provide the original direct link to the file from Dell? I seem to keep hitting a 404 with IE and the said error on Chrome. Not tried other browsers...

No problem, glad that it worked for you. I'm not sure why they wouldn't let you download it directly from, it worked just fine for me. (Firefox Nightly)

No, I do not use IE. I used it to assess whether it was a Chrome localized issue. Chrome is just about the only browser I need and use! :)

I recommend you to use Firefox whenever there's problem with Chrome, because IE's now consider as an outdated browser. For me I always use Firefox whenever I got problem with Chrome.

Yes, that's how I always do it. I just used IE since I had reformatted my system recently and didn't have FF installed. Nobody really uses IE anymore, for the record, and I hardly, if ever, have any issues with Chrome.

I ran this on my M14xR1. I thought I saw something flash on the screen that looked like a firmware update. I checked online and Dell says it applies to Dell Device and Alienware Command Center, that seems to confirm the firmware upgrade.

Now I'm remembering the problem with the older Dell Alienware laptops when after you installed a newer version Alienware Command Center that updated the firmware, if you respawned or the installed the older Command Center from the resource disk, it broke the FX lights.

Does anybody know if I have to worry now about an older Command Center getting installed and bricking FX?

They are just the "codenames" for the Alienware machines....eg. M18x is called Avenger, by Dell.

There are only 4 models supported by this "update", do you know specifically what the others are? M11x = Phantom? M14x = Specter? M17x = Voyager?

Just a heads up - got a bit of a scare this morning when i upgraded and it seemed as though by colours were permanently frozen (colours froze during the install and alien fx had no effect on changing them despite a restart)

You have to actually shut down your alienware and turn it back on again, not just restart (like the install says), to get it operational again

Hopefully this saves a few people from that stomach dropping moment when you think uv screwed ur system

Installed it last night and seems to be working great so far on my M17x-r3. Seems a lot faster and more smooth than the older version. :)

I asked this earlier and didn't get a reply. I decided to test myself because I was already getting the motherboard in my M14x R1 replaced due to a previous botched install.

First I tried to reinstall the previous version which worked fine, it just reflashed the firmware to the prevoius version. Then with the new version installed, I swapped out the hard drive with a drive that had the previous version of command center installed. When I ran the old command center with the new firmware version, I got the following error message "The device you have selected is included in the current theme, but AlienFX cannot detect this device on your system. Do you want to remove this device from the current theme?". I selected "No" and command center loaded. At this point, any changes made to the lighting did not take affect. I exited command center and installed the new version and everything worked fine.

So the results of my experiment was that running an old version of command center on my M14x R1 did not automatically brick my FX.

I confirmed with Mark_O and L_Porras this update is applicable and compatible to the M18x R1 even though it was not listed in the description. (It was accidentally omitted.) I am running it on the M18x R1 and there are not any problems with it.

Thanks for pointing it out. +1 for the assistance. I had been away from the forum a lot due to business travel and missed this thread. I updated the thread title to reflect this update applies to the M18x R1 as well. While it shows up as a download for the R1, it might cause some concern about installing it with the M18x R1 not being listed in the compatibility section of the release notes. Hopefully, they will correct that typo.

    More than likely...

With the 15x and the original first gen systems, the rule of thumb here is - NEVER ROLL BACK to your Resource DVD version - from any newer version of AWCC than what appears on that resource DVD. This is the reason why AWCC was removed from all Resource DVDs after that giant mishap. That was a nightmare and one which I'm sure they do not wish to repeat.

Thanks God i found this thread, i have Alienware M11x R2 and Windows7 64 bit installed later, no version of Command Center that i tried ever worked, always it displayed an error of .NET Framework at start-up although everything was up to date. I decided to give this a try and it works, no errors at start-up, when i open the program it stated that my hardware version is not compatible with it but that probably refers only to those themes that are only designed for R3 versions because other themes work just fine ! I'm very happy that after eight months of having a basic blue theme now i can finally change colors as i like !
