actually the website shows 2.0.14, A04 for download.
i just got my M17x2 on thursday so I guess I'll just stay with what I got.
incidentally how do I go about actually checking what version I am currently running?

Open the command center, help--> about--> which tells you the version you are using.

Or go to c:\program files\Alienware and right click CommandCenter.exe and in details you will see wich version you are running.

Does anyone know whether the new BIOS release (released 3/31/2010) for the Alienware M15x fixes the new Alienware Command Center problem which causes all of the system's lighting system to turn off? URGENT!!!

    Hi JodiAF,

The BIOS doesn't really impact the AlienFX controller. The firmware for that is seperate, and will require a different update. I have had issues sporadically with Command Center since the release, and upgraded to A05 last week. If it helps, I haven't noticed any issues since upgrading to A05. Good luck!

The Alienheads don't light up with A04 (which is the only official version for the M17x-R2, it seems) until the AlienFX controller is loaded in Windows (so no light on it on startup). Other than that, A04 works fine.

You can use the A03 version on the M17x-R2, by the way, even though it only lists the regular M17x and the M15x under compatibility. It works better than A04 for me.

    Hi guys!

    I'm from Argentina.

I bought an Alienware M15x one mounth ago.

I downloaded the last Command center (2.5.44.0 A05) and installed it.

After this, all the lights of my laptop stalled in the last theme applied.

I tried all the alternative fixes present that found online, but the problem could not be fixed.

Two days ago, i called to Dell support and they sent a technican with a new keyboard and chip located behind the Alien's Head at the LCD panel.

After this, the problem still occurs.

    I don't know what i can do.

I read that some Alienware M15X owners received a new Mother Board and then the problem was fixed. It is true?

    Is that the solution?

Is your keyboard and everything else still light up? If it is then you don't need a new mobo. All you have to do is do a fresh install and remember to download all the driver from dell website. Especially the OSD and command center. After you do that everything should work back to normal. Remember if you do a fresh install from now on download it from the dell website if you use your resource disc and install back the old command center your alienfx will broke.

    Hi! Thanks for your reply.

Currently, all the lights of my laptop are off. Because before the technicians come to my home, i tried to fix it holding the power button for 25 seconds without charger and battery. But this procedure only reestablished the alienfx theme to black.

procedures that i did after the technicians visit:

I installed the new OSD and command center, but the "alienfxtester" application says that no alienfx board was detected and cannot see the current firmware version.

Also the Alien FX editor of the command center does not recognized the devices, due to this i cannot modified nothing.

I think that the firmware of the Alienfx board was not repaired after the technicians visit.

Is a big problem because the dell technicians in my town have never seen an Alienware :S.

    What can i do?

The piece behind the alien's head is the chip that controls all lights of the laptop?

That just happen to me last week and my mobo had to be replace by a dell tech. I don't think that it's a black color theme, it your alienfx is not working. You said a tech came by, what did he do exactly? The only way to fix it is to replace the mobo. If he didn't do that then that mean your alienfx is still broke.

From the sound of things, I think that you probably bricked your AlienFX BIOS which, unfortunately, is hardwired onto your MOBO. Call alienware to replace your MOBO.

For me, even after they replaced the MOBO, the problem continued. They finally sent in a replacement laptop which did not have "that" problem. It did have other issues, which are being resolved right now :p

The technicians did not change my MOBO. They only replaced the keyboard and the led behind the alien's head. I don't know why, maybe alienware support did not understand my problem.

I sent an email at morning saying that the problem is not fixed and explaining the issue using technical vocabulary.

I'm waiting the call of the support department. I expect that my laptop will work properly in a few days.

After the replacement of the MOBO, can you upgrade the command center to the last version without problems?

Another question, which are the new issues triggered with the MOBO replacement?

I'm sorry for not being clear earlier. They replaced my MOBO but the issue was not resolved (even after the usual stuff of uninstall/reinstall, etc). Finally they decided that I have a defective lappy and sent me a brand new M15x which did not have any problems with the AlienFX

However this new laptop did not have the "Out of Box Experience" that I had with the earlier one. All the wallpapers were from the previous generation M15x. The right speaker grill was not as bright as the left one. The nameplate was not personalized, Keyboard flex was back, etc...
