That's a very cool idea! - I think it would be great if Alienware's aesthetics were more customizable. Sleeves would be a good idea, as would customizable paintwork that is avaialable from other notebook resellers.

When you say sleeve, do you mean:

    - a complete hard case to carry the machine in
    - a hard/soft cover that attaches only to the top lid
    - a soft cover that covers the whole machine which you slip the notebook into (as with the velvet sleeve they ship in)

    ?

I wouldn't really buy one of these, though. I mean, it's a good idea and all, but I prefer the sleek design of the current systems and would rather have a sleeve that matches that instead.

Either a hard or soft case sleeve that the laptop fits into for protection. (Not a decorative panel to attach to the lid.) A hard clam-shell cover with a soft felt liner designed to fit each specific model was the type of sleeve I was thinking of.

I agree with your other point and mentioned that in the other thread. ;)

To me, 'sleeve' has always and exclusively referred to a soft cover made of cloth. The kind of hard-case you are thinking of is, well, a case.

Well, sure, I suppose Razer calls their neoprene Blade's cover (which maintains it shape) a sleeve, but then again it's a softer case.
Something like their Transformer cases is probably what you mean, right? Those, are, well, cases imo. But I digress.

Either way... soft or hard case/sleeve, would be a nice accessory. A soft case probably would not hold the skull cap shape well.

I would love it if AW also came out with some Sleek looking carrying cases like this

Basically an AW branded heavy duty carrying case that also unfolds into a battle station of sorts.

    and/or something like this

a case where the corners are strapped in the case so you can open the case and your laptop stays safe and secure inside while you use it.

That's a real neat idea right there, Mr. Fox!!

EDIT: The first and third poll options are redundant.

I really like the concept. I'm a fan of as much customization as possible, especially when it isn't permanent. This would be a fitting way to celebrate vintage Alienwares. ;)

I'm thinking the heat generated by these beasts would probably preclude any design that would restrict airflow like those appear to do.

I am somewhat "meh" on the idea of another soft sleeve but I truly like the Alienware Specific hard case idea, would especially come in handy in less than ideal environments such as Afghanistan.

I would totally go for this, if the machine could be used inside without choking on dust and overheating (all the current Alienwares use lower intakes and rear-exhausts) and the 'mousepad' section was actually rigid (so it could be used without a flat surface or hanging off a very small table).

I could see it being composed of several hard plates connected together with layers of Kevlar and then lots of padding inside. The computer would be housed in the middle with a layer of padding between it, and a raiser plastic platform with small holes in it. When you open up the case you take the padding from between the bottom of the comp and the platform, and put it on the right side to use as a mouse pad, and then the comp is on the raised, platform with holes in it so the fan can work correctly.

This reminds me of 'cyborg' products, adjustable, customizable and very 'unique' look. I would probably buy few of them, some like I did for my system buying spare alienware m17x & m18x - keyboard, palmrest and some other parts (though I have advanced warranty). Maybe I am a freak, but I like to take care of them and make sure there is not even a scratch. That is why I refused several times having a technician coming to my house and doing what is required to fix the systems. I love to have the back cover customized, to be able to put different types of 'shells' ofcourse for look and secondly which I am obsessed with, the protection. Since the alien head behind is only white, will be great to have built in those covers some kind of plates to 'allow' us to change the colour...

Sleeve is one of the best thing can this system have as an accessory, with some detachable handles and probably a separate pouch to add the adapter into it. If some Chinese company reads our request, I am definitely sure we may be able to see shortly on ebay, something great built especially for those machines.

Hmmm. Attachable handles actually sounds pretty awesome. I would probably be really paranoid about them if they didn't look really solidly designed though.

Im in favor. I love my laptop, but the black look does kind of get lost in the sea of other black computers. I wouldnt mind a nice bright green or white one.
