Hello Alienware users. I created this extension from Open Hardware Monitor that let you monitor your computer from your Android device (tablet and or phone). Right now is in Alpha stage, so it could:
- Freeze
- Crash
- Don't work
- etc
I'm publishing this to the Alienware family, because I need some testers so that I can fix the issues and exit Alpha stage. So if you are interested in the program, keep reading.
What to expect?
Full system information available in the screen of your device.
Data logging to a .xsl file.
2 UI, list UI and graph UI.
What is the advantage of using this instead of any other program?
This extension doesn't do ANY calculation, it literally send the data to your device and then your device makes all the calculations.
How does this works?
Just install the app in your device and open it,.
Open the program in your PC > click file > click connect > write your device IP address (It will be shown in your device screen)
Once it says that the connection was successful open the app settings and click data selection. Now select all the info that you want to see in your device. Now go back to the main page and enjoy.
Tools needed:
Both, your PC and your Android device, needs to be connected to the same WiFi router.
How to use data logging?
Open the app settings > enable the Logging check box > go back to the main page > stress, bench, game, etc. with your pc > open app settings > disable logging. Now you should have a .xsl file in the root of your sdcard containing all the information.
Known bugs
The program, PC, will stop working if you don't click the disconnect button. FIX: Open the program location folder and delete the file: connected
So far Mr. Fox phone is creating empty .xls files, 0kb, and corrupted, can't be opened. FIX: Haven't found one yet![]()
I will add pictures when I have at least 5 posts saying that the logging is working. Please include your device information like the following, so I can include it to the list:
LG Nexus 4 GSM
OS 4.4
Rooted running AOSPA 4.4
Tested and working with
- Nexus 4 GSM
- Galaxy Nexus GSM
- Nexus 7 WiFi 2012
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy S3
- Galaxy Young

How to setup Dropbox account
1. Open the Windows program > click on options > remote share > click the dropbox menu item
![]()
2. The browser will open and you will need to sign it to Dropbox. WHen you have sigend it you will need to grant it permission to read your files:
![]()
3. Click ok on the Message Box. If everything went well you will get a second message box saying: Access Granted!...
4. If you didn't get this message box go back to step 1
5. Open Dropbox with your browser and go to the public folder > sensorslogger and copy the public link of the file: Data.txt
![]()
6. Open the Android app > click your device menu and open the app settings. Now paste/write the public link of your file in the text box provided.
7. Check the Dropbox checkbox. If everything went well you should get a message saying that the file was found. If you didn't get this message go back to step 5
Now you have access to your data from every Android device and while away of your pc. If you want to stop sending the data to the Dropbox just uncheck the dropbox menu checked in step 1.

Other than not logging to an XLS file with my HTC One phone it works really great. You can monitor CPU and GPU clock speeds, power, temps, etc. right on the screen of your phone as a "mini monitor" so to speak. It's almost like having a wireless Logitech keyboard with the small display for those readings, only better.
I encourage others to try it and help with the testing.MogRules, iPhantomhives and Rotary Heart like this. -
Well, OK... maybe folks just don't understand what this is. The silence is deafening, LOL. I updated the thread title to help with that. It's not only for Alienware systems, but I thought it might make it more clear that this is something that enthusiasts might have a use for. It's for the benefit of the PC, not the Android phone.
This app runs on the PC (OpenHardwareMonitor based) and the Android. The data is fed across WiFi to the phone.
You can watch your system performance and temperatures on the screen of your Android device. Maybe some pictures will help...

This is a really dope concept, any plans for an iphone app in the future?

Nice idea.
Asus padfone 1 (rooted and android 4.1.1) crashed on startup. Just installed the alpha.apk. Well try to diagnose on what is making it crash. -
Very cool indeed.

I removed the link, because I will upload each separately (one link for windows program and other for android program) so this way is easier for me to upload updates. Links will be working in a couple of minutes.
New link are up. With files and a changelog.txt file that will be edited every time I change something to either program. -

This is a really cool idea, I would like to test it once you get it for iOS

Downloading it it right now.
Test environment will be a HTC HD2 running a custom ROM based on Gingerbread (API level 10) for now.
EDIT:
Results from initial testing:
Server side:
- Installation went smooth, server side.
- Connected the terminal to the same network as the client, attempted to connect the latter and the program froze.
- Second attempt was successful but lost the client on the phone screen within a few seconds.
- Third attempt was successful, selected a few sensors from the server's settings and everything was displaying and updating in real-time.
- I went ahead and added the rest of the sensors and everything was going great.
- Phone's screen does stay on when the Keep screen on option is selected but sometimes turns off after being dim for a while. It turns off based on the phone's setting when in the application's Settings menu (this is probably what you wanted but reporting it just in case)
- Switched to graph view and saw no problems here. Only a small tip, if i may, you can probably replace the color squares in the legend with smaller colored bullets, this way vertical spacing between text will be reduced and allowing the whole legend to fit when in landscape mode.
- After creating 16 log files, i went ahead and checked their size. All first 15 log files occupy 0 bytes and hold no data while the last one holds 123 lines of what i would call correct data
. Will it be possible to replace current column names in the xls filewith maybe the values that the application receives on the monitoring screen?
Client side:
- I haven't had the need to delete the connected file (which holds the server's/phone's IP) after the program froze on my first two attempts, maybe because my router assigned my phone the same IP address.
- After that third attempt i had no more freezes reconnecting to the server, even after deleting the connected file and relaunching both applications. Creating a file with no extension, naming it connected and placing the server's IP address inside will allow both parties to communicate with no problem.
- Resetting Min/Max functions properly for all sensors.
- Everything under the Options menu also functions properly.
This is everything I have for now. I should be able to test it on a few tablets and phones running different Android flavors these coming days and will report back.
Really great job all around. Functions way better than I expected after reading the OP.Mr. Fox, CptXabaras and Rotary Heart like this. -

Nice one on the bullets for the legend! It will be added. I think I didn't understand what you want for the xls file, could you explain a little bit?
Thanks for such an amazing report. Right now I'm a bit bussy with collage, but as soon as I have some "free" time I will work on the legend and fixing some crashes that DH48 is having. -
Great work. I'd love to test this when you have a iOS build available.

Windows Phone would be great as I have a Lumia 925 now. I have literally given up on Apple now iOS7 was the final straw for me.

App published in Google Play, I will provide a link when Google make it visible in the store. I also created this thread: [APP][2.2+] PC (Windows) System Monitor - xda-developers in case that anyone want any more information about the app. Also I added the bullets in the legend.

What about Blackberry users, can't forget about them if there will be iOS and Windows Phone implemented. But are there even Alienware users who own a Blackberry.... anyone at all?

I think the BlackBerry keyboard and tracking device is superior to using a touch screen. I really don't like using a touch screen for anything. Whether it is a phone, PC or tablet, to me it's really nasty having a filthy slimy screen covered with fingerprints, LOL. It's not quite as unsanitary, but to me it is similar to blowing your nose on or spitting all over your electronics. I have to force myself to not think about that. Although, I do feel that Android is an excellent phone OS.Akimitsui likes this. -
Ya, I own a BlackBerry as well, but it's the old Bold 9900 - and it's OS is based on Java and not on a highly customized mobile version of Linux like Android and BB10, so app support fails
. But, I really don't care much for apps, all I use my phone for is communication and it works great for that. If I want to game on the go then I have my Sony PSP which I modded for dual analog sticks and is loaded with 64GB worth of games (I own the physical copies of the games but prefer to play off the SD card because disc-loading times suck), and of course there's my M11X. And for the android feel there's the ASUS tablet; but Mr. Fox I have to agree with you, I am not too fond of touchscreens.... I am constantly using a cloth to clean my screen because I simply can't stand the sight of fingerprints

Thanks to Rotary Heart´s hard work data is showing now on Asus padfone( OS android 4.1.1, Rooted)
Only strange note is that it does not connect on all network for some reason (keeps getting connection error ). Might be network restrictions but it is a bit odd. Found that its much easy´r to just make a wifi hotspot on the phone and then connect.Mr. Fox and Rotary Heart like this. -
Glad to hear you have it working DH48. It's a cool app. I really like it.

Been running the program for awhile this morning while running benchmarks.
I have the computer in my back office at work while I have my phone at my front desk. Checking my system while it runs works great. No problems yet.
m17xr4
sony xperia play
Now if you can only get it to run over the internet so I can track the computers at home.
So one thing I have noticed, when you rotate the screen it switches to showing your IP address. It sometimes hangs at this screen for a decent amount of time befor it goes to the info.Mr. Fox and Rotary Heart like this. -
I will test this on my HTC Thunderbolt sometime this week, looks promising

Some wifi networks have restrictions to the ports, so there is no way to communicate, but you can enable your device hotspot and use it. I'm currently working on getting the data over the internet, so it can be checked while away from it. Also I have been trying to get the data using Bluetooth, but its still not working.
I will update the OP soon with more pics and working with the internet reading data. Hopefully I will get the Windows Phone app finished soon.
Thank you guys for trying this out, I;m ready to exit the Alpha stage. -
Would having a central server that all the data is loaded to then sent to the phone work?
I have a spare server I could hook up and set it for Alienware owners to use the program.Rotary Heart likes this. -

There's a new version with an option to use Dropbox to view your sensors data. With this method you could read your data from any android device anywhere, note that its still in BETA stage, that's why I'm publishing here.
Also there's a new version for the android one which have some new features.
Included instructions on how to setup Dropbox account in the first post. If anyone tries the Dropbox option and its working please let me know. Thanks. -
HEY SINCE THE UPDATE its not working for me.. doesnt give me my wifi ip any more.. I can mannual enter it as i know the phones ip when its on the network but.. it still wont go..

I'd love to use this. I'll be happy to test your IOS build when you get there.

I have a Sprint Note 2 running a 4.3 build of SlimROM and the app works great for me.
The app is very useful. When benchmarking I'm able to check for OC stability by watching the clock speed, and while gaming the temp display is awesome for watching CPU and GPU utilization.
Thank you for offering up this app to the community. It's great for real time monitoring.Mr. Fox and Rotary Heart like this. -
