    Hey guys ...

    finally I found a way to "unlock" the Bios from the 8800 GTX in my m15x ...

    At the moment I run all test´s with the 175.80 WHQL driver .. with the 175.50 I had alway around 500 points more ... that means .. I´m able to hit the 11K mark :D

    for this score the geforce was running on 571 GPU Core and 928 GPU Memory ... temp is not going over 80° maximum was 79° and than the fan starts working and cool the card down to 71° ... so there is enough room to OC :D

    the bios which I use is still beta version ... as soon as I tried ALL options ... I can provide you the bios ...

    mm nice... nice clocks.. this is why i think the 9800m GTX may be put in the m15x.
    how did i exactly unlock overclocking?... was it just via drivers right?

    Markus, just curious why you went from a m1730 to a m15x? Pretty drastic change.

    :D as you can see, I had the 1730 for gaming and the 1330 for everything else ... but it was very bothersome to work with both, always to sync. the files ... and with the m15x I have more or less a 1730 and 1330 in one :rolleyes:

    Have you used Rivatuner to monitor your GPU's temperatures? Or are you using Thermofan (this program does not give an accurate reading of the GPU temperatures and largely underestimates it)?
    Could you please post some graphs with Rivatuner (with clock speeds, temperatures, etc...).
    How are you testing your GPU? Only with 3DMark06?

    Appart from that... well done. Although what's the difference between 10000 3DMark06 (what I have at stock) and 10900 (what you have OCed)? Is the difference in performance really significative to justify the OC?

    @Nirvana:

    no, i can´t because as you see in my signature .. 1440x900 ;)

    @milcs:

    The ThermoFan gives me the correct temparatur, I checkt this with Everest and GPU-Z!

    In the attached picture I marked the settings.
    You can´t use RivaTuner, because the 8800M has got 4 performance Level, and RivaTuner is just able to manage 3!
    I use the nTune for OC!

    edit:

    The link shows the score with the same system just without OC

    lol ... but you know, you can´t compare this system with an m15x ... allone because of the FSB ....

    And I have a encreased score from 1200 points ... from 98xx to 11xxx :D

    edit:

    Now I just have to find out, how to OC the X9000, than I´ll hit the 12K with the right driver ;)

    artifacting when visual output from the GPU is distorted due to excessive heat or lack of power at high frequency . I have not overclocked a laptop before but in a desktop enviroment the point at which it starts to artifact is the point you have hit your thermal limit. usualy GPus start artifacting long before any risk to gpu takes place.

    have u experienced any of this at higher speeds or are u just stoping due to not wanting a warm laptop

    Ohh ... I understand :)

    So, I had never somthing like this in my laptops, because the videocard was never going to hot, like it is in the m15x, the maximum rate at the moment is 600/950 ... and as soon as I encrease one of the value, I get a "frezze". and after 10 sec. the display shows me the Vista Desktop and the videocard is on performance level 2 with 150/200 ... than I have to restart the laptop, after the restart everything is normal again!

    But I gues also the geforce would start around 100° to "artifacting" :)

    edit:

    @tacomenace21

    I use for playing an Laptopcooler, and in crysis the max temp. was CPU 79° (so more than 14° space) and GPU 76° (so more than enough space)

    In the "stress test" the CPU never went above 83° !!

    Allow me to disagree... Thermofan is innacurate measuring the temperatures of the GPU. Use HWmonitor to get all the temperatures of CPU, HDD and GPU. This program will also keep the maximum temperatures registred, so you will know what is the maximum temp your GPU has gone to.

    sounds like the 8800m GTX still has alot of fail safes just one more tick to the list why people should stop stressing about the temps imo.

    100C is something to worry about in a laptop like this.

    Markus, if you could then do us that favour and test the GPU during gameplay (e.g. crysis) and send us a screen of your HWMonitor program with max temps that the 8800GTX reached during gameplay, that would really be helpful.

    Hope they did manage to sort out the 8800GTX heating problem.

    I´m very impressed now ... I have a "final" bios now on, which one works without faults 100% ... Driver 175.75 ... and now I hit the 11K with 1.05 Volt, the first scores I just could get with 1.1 Volt ...

    I think I´m able to hit the 12K now ...

    listen guys ... I try to write a "HowTo" till this evening, latest tomorrow!

    But I´ll tell you, that every videocard is diffarent, so maybe someone can get better core/memory speed, the other one can oc the card just 5% ...

    AND VERY IMPORTANT:

    It´s all at your own risk ...

    I mean, I´ll provide you the bios for the videocard, the most of you know anyway how to flash the bios ... but I´ll write it down!

    OK ... so give me one more day ... than I´ll tell you the "secret" ... which one is no secret, just a bit playing around ... because ... there is ALWAYS a way :rolleyes:

    Nice scores Markus.

    Questions: you said you unlocked the GPU’s to OC. I am confused. Rivatuner works right out of the box with the stock drivers. But I cannot get any other drivers from (i.e.) laptopvideo2go.com (yes I know to use the custom INF).

    Is this what you unlocked? Also, does this fix the downclocking on battery thing with the m15x? Thanks a bunch and looking forward to your guide =)

    Again ... RivaTuner is NOT working correctly with the 8800M ...

    REASON: The 8800M has got 4 performance Level, RivaTuner can handle just 3!

    When you change the core/gpu speeds with RivaTuner ... open Everest, or nTune and check the speed ... I promise you, the 4th level is still on the same speed!!!

    You can the downclock the videocard ... but not overclock ... try nTune and come back to me ;)

    *gasp @ this thread* I can't believe you risked overclocking the 8800 on a machine this finicky! Nice results though.

    wow, nice catch markus, i did not think to of that... cant check atm, but will at home.

    I still pulled off 10k 3dmark06 /w the t9300 using riva.

    now i'm really looking forward to your guide. i just got mine Friday so only had the weekend to play around. i pretty much stopped when laptopvideo2go drivers failed...

    i couldnt get Ntune to work at all... reverts settings back as soon as you apply... i figured this is because of the stock drivers, but i cant get others to install...

    I agree there will be no need to keep this system OC anytime in the very near future, unless you want to really bump up those setting in Crysis (for example)

    but i have to say, the system did handel very well while OC. like markus had, i did not get any temps over 90C with Core 575 mem 950. it can go further, but not recommended :)

    Here can you see, that RivaTuner just work with 3 Levels. When you start RivaTuner, the program will read the bios from the videocard, and shows you wrong speeds ...

    [IMG]

    And in this picture Everest shows us clearly that the videocard works with 4 Level!

    [IMG]

    This is a very simple tool from nVidia (ntune 5.05.) ... you move the small line, and here you go ...

    [IMG]

    And here you can check if the card accept the score ...

    @tech17

    the 10K is not about the processor, because the different is not decisive for the 3DMark!

    And there is a huge different in games with this core/memory speed ... I´ll post later on details ...

    @maceto

    no problems with the temps at all

    Thanks again markus. I'll give ntune another shot when i get back, but i assume your BIOS flash is needed first.

    PS: what was your processor score? we can calculate exactly how much of the total score is contributed by the faster processor with a compare.

    But of MOST imporatance to me, does any of your tweaking fix the GPU downclock when running on battery? far as i can tell we'll need a BIOS flash for that...

    thanks again, very helpful.
