I see Dell has uploaded a new beta video driver 186.12 for the M17x.

Anyone installed this yet, and if so any issues with it?

    thanks,
    Pete

Check the attached pic (I wonder if physx wasn't supported in the older driver Dell was shipping the systems with)

You know I just read something today on NBR about Physx not being supported on drivers before 180.xx or 185.xx but don't remember where I saw it so can't confirm when it started.

the drivers performance is about the same as 182 with the exception of hybrid working

so this driver is a big upgrade :)

Dell is pretty good with updates.

I hope they update OSD driver/app as it seems to be a little buggy....

yes for me the difference between dox's 182.46 & Dells beta 186.12 drivers are about 50 points in favor of dox's. Big plus though you can enable hybrid sli back so i give these a thumbs up so far.

From the dowload instructions, they dont mention uninstalling current video driver?

is that the case ? we can just install this as is?

    thanks,

I believe it'll force you to uninstall first. I always manually delete anyway.

Interesting.... I'll have to put this driver to the test.
@ryujin - They were all Windows 7 issues

    Thanks,

i wouldnt get too excited... i dont know if these are just numbers and wont effect games but mandrake is only getting 10.2k in vantage when he got 11.7k with dox... maybe game performance will be similar, idk, but dox will probably win in benches so run your benchmarks with dox 182.46...

correct me if im wrong mandrake...

After installing the driver, I noticed that you now have the ability to turn the physx card on or off (on by default). I guess the old driver didn't support Physx.

Kcissem is having better luck benchmarking with the Dell drivers than me. I haven't tried games yet.

well i'm back to dox's 182.46 as well, the dell beta 186.12 seems to not allow much overclocking before it locks up.

We never tested gaming benchmarks but I think it's time others contribute anyway. ;)

yea... i currently dont have enough funds for one yet... very soon though... maybe not cuz of shipping time lol... this laptop is dieing for contributors though... maybe some 260's in sli and single 260 so we can compare? I will be purchasing mine with 260's in sli so when i finally get that, i will be glad to contribute...

So far, the new driver seems to perform almost identical to the old one (with or without physx). I always like to play Call of Duty 4, being that it's a pretty graphic intensive game. Despite which driver I use, Call of Duty 4 occassionally pauses here and there. It's still very much playable, but it seems like it has to catch up every now and then.

I had them running on win7 also, i got better scores than stock drivers but any oc'ing on the GPU's it locks up almost instantly upon login. I could oc the card by just a small amount and it would lock up. Don't have this issue with the dox drivers. So i think dell still has a bit to work on for these driver before they are ready to leave beta stage.
