Hey Fellas,
Just curious here. Most 2011 3D TV's apparently only take 3D at 720 60FPS or at 1080 at 24FPS.
I previously thought this limitation was due to only using HDMI 1.4 instead of HDMI 1.4a rather than the display itself.
I'm getting a Sony set will support 200Hz.
Theoretically, I then should be able to support 1080p at 60fps using 3D (3D actually being 60fps x2 [per eye] (120Hz). Will a HDMI 1.4a cable suffice ? or should I be looking at using DVI ?
Can anyone shed any light on the situation ?

Displayport ! HDMI technically can do if both end and cable support but it is iffy. DVI do not carry sound unlike hdmi/display port.

HDMI should be enough. I purchased this HDMI cable on Amazon. It holds a five star rating out of 4,551 reviews - I'd say it's pretty good. I'll be adding my own review as soon as my system arrives.
Good luck. -
Goodstuff. Thanks guys. So both of you can get over original 1080p 24-30 fps limitation ?
I've got an official overpriced Sony HDMI, ill give that a try first before a look into going the DVI route. -

I don't think there is any solution to this using a 3D TV. I've done quite a bit of research for my Panasonic 3D TV and the limitation is built into the 3D TV standard (designed for 3D movies not games). You can only get 24hz at 1080 which has atrocious input lag apart from anything else. The 50hz @ 720P is pretty good though on a decent game - I test with Batman Arkham City. You still need a 1.4 hdmi cable for it to work that way.
If you have a 120hz monitor you can use the mini-port to drive it but the NV glasses have to be used as well.

+1 to that!
This is one of the prime reasons I went for a 3D monitor instead of a 3D Tv.. Simply put, if you want to play games @ 3D 1080p at nearabout 60Hz, then with the current tech, monitors are the best option... There are a few workarounds for 3D Tvs to do this, but they all have considerable drawbacks... -

When sony says 200hz, these are usually inflated figures done with wonky counting.

Agree, it has to be a monitor for big screen 3D.
Unfortunately I don't see it getting any better soon. The 3D TV standard was designed around a streamed source so lag is not an issue. All they need to do is the minimum frame rate that is smooth, and so keeps the bandwidth requirement to a minimum. Has to be Over-The-Air as well.
For gaming we need it to be able to listen and react to input in real-time and it just can't cope. The 120hz TV's just use an internal 'smoothing' technology to fill in the gaps and give a higher refresh. -

Yes I have seen TVs with low input lag modes, but one with a low input lag 3d setting? I doubt it.
1080P 3D @ 60FPS to a TV
