    hey yall

    just was wondering where i would be able to buy uploads for my M17x (1st Gen) i wanted to upgrade my GPU from 8700m to whatever is the best card i can get atm

    I have already switched out my T8300 for an X9000 so im comfortable changing stuff in my m17x

    any help would be great thanks alot! :D

    Edit: yea the 8800M GTX in my sig didnt work out im back with a 8700M

    I know this one for a fact Unless your Laptop is a A06. It will not support the 9800gt or 8800gtx. If you want to know what verson of your Motherboard go to alienware website and look up Laptop spec. It will be on your laptop if your is A02 You have to buy a new motherboard. Not sure about the A04.

    well im at myHive and checking my invoice cant seem to see the motherboard revision any other way to check?

    Not my hive turn off your laptop flip it over take the battery out and unplug it and take the panel of your gpu off above your gpu you see searial numbers. Sorry bad spelling

    It will be like B01 A02 A04 A06 I beleave next to the Searial number
    If you have A06 it will support the 9800gt

    I went from Geforce 8600 to 9800gt. I found out I had to pay to get it up to 9800gt due to the differnt Motherboards.

    But the two geforce 9800gt which is the same as the 8800gtx run alot better most of the time.

    cool... well i found out its an A04 model... what does that mean? and how much did you pay for the upgrade?

    Call Alienware and order the Cards. Tell them that A04 and see if it will support the Geforece 9800gt. There will be a few more parts you might want to order like the heatsink fan becuse I know the 8600 was solid mounted. If you try to pull it off it will break. Not sure about the 8700m.
