I'm think I might end up with an Alienware X17 (even though I don't care for how it looks)

I just haven't found any other alternative laptops.. and answers here (on another part of the forum) just confuse me!

I currently have a Dell XPS M1710. It's been a great laptop, I've been happily with it for 3 yrs, but I'm passing it to my son and I am in the market to buy a new laptop.

I'm not a gamer... so it is probably over-kill, but the screen display and resolution are very important to me!

I purchased the Studio 17 - screen was awful, and all washed out and it it s "true life" 900p - yuck.. I returned it.

Received a replacement.. the XPS 16. Nice screen - but I HATE the 16" display! I'm use to the 17 and want the 17". I also HATE the glossy finish - which shows fingerprints and smudges all over - and I hardly even touch it!

    Okay - so my questions:

Can you shut the front neon lights out?

Is the case a matte finish or glossy that attracts fingerprints all over.

Well the case is more matte but the black does show more fingerprints than the silver. If that is your concern get the silver version and you should be ok.

The screen itself is glossy so you will see reflections. (make sure to get RGB LED)

Yes you can turn off the FX lights if you do not want them on.

I decided to replace my M1710 with the Alienware M17x.. mainly because I want a 17" screen with 1080p...

I do a small amount of home video editing and I do some graphic design on the side here and there.. I do play a few online games.. nothing like gamers here.

I know the laptop is "overkill" for what I do, but .. the 17" RGB LED screen.... is just the selling point for me.

    Thanks!

I'll have to keep bumping it up - in hopes that a few will come back and read it again.

But your questions are answered already by Kilthro? (and I agree with him)
Or you have to be more specific on what you need to know further.

Maybe an HP elitebook, thinkpads, SXPS 16? Those have good screens. You're better off filling the FAQ

no.. I asked yet another question, but the forum mod merged it inside this thread.. but now I see HE LEFT THE QUESTION OFF ???

    ***NEW QUESTION***

What processor do you recommend I go with?
