I've been going back and forth just like the OP about the M15/M17X. The verdict is still out, and I'm getting closer to a decision because I just sold my XPS 1640 and will need a replacement to handle the 'heavy stuff' I do on my computer. :p

i just ordered the m15x today.. i was thinking about the m17 but its just too big lol.. even the m15x is too big.. im looking for somthing to bring places with me that doesnt look big.. i see the m15x looks bigger then most 15"s out there.. even though weight has no issue in this, size still matters :D

That's the one thing I liked on my XPS 1640. Ok, I also liked the slot-loading Blu-Ray player but who's counting? :p

I've heard good things about it, but the way I'll be using mine (unless I finally go w/ the M17X) will be connected to my LG 32LH40 LCD. :D

    I guess I'd go the M15x cause I'm only a casual gamer.

Had the chance to use an M15x over the weekend. It was really hard getting used to no numberpad and the size is prettymuch the same! It's a little lighter, which I guess is a bonus. On the flip side, the outer casing just feels so... normal and cheap compared to my M17x's silver aluminum.

I dont understand why people make it a complicated decision. You have to do three things to decide:

    1. Decide on your budget
    2. Configure both the M15x and M17x with that budget
    3. See what's better and go with that.

If you don’t have a budget, then go with the M17x. I have the M15x and its not portable, and neither is the M17x. But in overall quality the M17x is better. You won't be doing anymore travelling with the M15x than you would be doing with the M17x. I got the M15x only because I wanted to keep it under $2k. For a $2k budget, the M17x is not worth it IMO (especially in Canada). I think if you're getting the M17x you should at minimum have the RGB screen, i7 processor, and the 5870 crossfire or "planned" crossfire. The stock screen on the M17x has a lower resolution than the stock screen on the M15x. A single 5870 card is not that much better than the 5850 in the M15x, and getting an i5 processor in the M17x is just not worth it.

There was a screen shot of both the M15x and M17x size comparison, and really its not that much. The difference is in the weight.

All that said, I still prefer the M15x :D. In Canada its just too expensive to get the M17x. And if you haven't owned or played with the M17x, then you will love the M15x.
