How did you get #1 and #2 out of that?
-
From my source
-
Aluminium = Win.
IPS = Win.
Extra lights = Win.
Still unsure if matte or glossy though. It does look from the video that they're matte, so I suppose we could expect a matte option at least. But man, that touchpad...
I actually really like the new lid design, except for that black strip up the top. I miss the speaker grills though.
Very cool news though! -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, as those would be model specific, where did you get that from?
-
Well, the design is different. But different in a good way. Why get rid of the AlienFX keyboard lights though?
As long as the M18xR3 comes with GTX 780m SLi at launch, they already have my money ;-) -
The keyboard will have lights, just will look different than previous since its a new keyboard
-
-
Does all 3 sizes come in aluminium?
-
-
Design wise looks very good and still Alienware
.
Maybe buy a extra m17x, something known about SLI/Crossfire configurations?
The alu is a big big +, should make the temps also a little bit nicer and just feels alot better quality wise. -
I bet a mod is gonna move this thread but cloudfire your soo clutch man you roxxxxxxx man it looks soo awesome omg
can u tell if the black area is alloy too? i cant tell
-
fatboyslimerr Alienware M15x Fanatic
Man I want one! Based on the designs on that video it looks like M17x has two exhaust slots at the back, one for cpu and one for gpu.
M18x has 3 exhuast lots, clearly for SLI. Probably no SLI in M17x then...
I still want one! Design changes are brilliant! -
I'll actually be very pleased if the 17 is single GPU. That'll mean Optimus, and far better battery life. (My eyesight isn't good enough for the 14, so that's not an option).
Here's hoping they don't bring back the $1,799 starting price of the original M17x. -
does it look more adult and premium in quality or is it just me?
-
Way way waaaay better than the old models design wise in my opinion. Much more sleeker compact design, the keyboard looks really sophisticated. The glowing lights around the notebook looks so awesome. Aluminum used is anodized which means it is hardened to last long, and its so nice to touch compared to plastic.
Look at the video, you will notice that you can change the colour on the lights around it. First it is green, then it is white, then red. So they are probably customizable as well as the touchpad
Personally I hate glossy screens, but whatever that IPS comes in, Matte or Glossy, I`m upgrading to it. Love IPS screens -
Love it! Can't wait for more...hope they announce it 9 days from now in the U.S. so we can begin purchasing.
I hope the grills in the front of these laptops serve an actual purpose, like pulling air in. -
I wonder if the IPS screen maybe could be 1600p?
-
-
Of course, all I really need is the Anodized Aluminum and an IPS display -
Awwww, that design is simply amazingggg. I WANT
THIS !!! -
Either way, I want one, now! -
-
Ah ok. I thought FHD came in different resolutions. Doesn`t matter to me though, gotta have IPS anyway. Now what will that upgrade cost I wonder?
-
-
If it does end up having IPS screens just expect to have the usual IPS issues especially if they use LG panels which is pretty much 100% guaranteed.
Image retention pretty much automatic to an extent.
Backlight bleeding typical on IPS panels even the best ones and IPS Glow around the whole border of the screen.
Just saying this because people are going to once again be expecting perfection for the money and of course this will all be followed a couple weeks after release with threads like...
Does your Alienware M1xx have image retention ???
Needs to be said for the people who do not understand or know enough about the tech. -
Ohhh - I like the styling, though I'm hoping that they don't charge more than current models just because they're new.
Once the pricing and options are released, I'll decide between an M17x and a G750 - hopefully I decide right.
If anyone here can provide me with some haggling tips, or ways I can get a better import deal, PLEASE PM me. I'm in Canada, so I plan to order barebones from the states and upgrade here. -
What's the bet that when people get their IPS Alienwares there's going to be a bunch of people (myself included) shouting for VA panels?
-
aluminium is cool but i like the m17xr4 design better
-
Hmm don't see any signs of a red or black exterior option... aluminum on the m14x is awesome though. My question is, why is there a picture of a girl in each picture? Nobody cares, but funny how nobody noticed
-
It's some adware/advertisement on the person's computer that captured the pictures from the video. Nothing to do with the actual video itself
-
ALIENWARES GONNA BANG SONY AND MICROSOFT IN THEIR FACES. SHEESH!!!! hihihihehehe mUhahahaha!!!
-
-
I'm sure it's only an option, not default. So, if you don't want IPS, don't buy it.
-
Not bad. The m18x doesn't look a whole lot different to me. I totally dig the touch pad. Definitely prefer the current style grills at the front though.
-
IPS is an option. Matte screen is stock, IPS is an upgrade
-
Slower response times is another IPS issue as well over TN panels that people may or may not notice. Never bothered me but some people are fanatical about timing like when you hit a button and there is a millisecond or 20 millisecond delay from when you hit it to what you see on the screen.
It is still awesome they are finally getting IPS panels but yeah ... -
Ugly new designs. I'm disappointed in what I see so far, they look like Clevo with an AW cover.
Sent from my GT-N7000 -
They are certainly blockier looking then anything i have seen them do in the past. Not so much the exotic car design but more of a hybrid of work style with some fancy lighting to set it apart from just being bland.
At least it is not more garish so they could have went the other way with the design as well.
-
The new design does look good in a way, but there is something missing to make it Alienware. I agree with Joker that they look more Clevo, and to me that's a bad thing. Still doesn't make me want the M17x any less lol.
-
Now that the 17 is aluminum, what's going to keep it from weighing as much as the 18?
-
All I want is a good battery life from the 14inch model

Alienware originally based their designs on supercars.
Now I really do like the new designs, but these ones don't seem to be inspired by supercars, which means it doesn't have that Alienware twist.
As I have mentioned before elsewhere, Alienware set the bar pretty high with the design of their 2012 lineup, but they cannot stick with the same design every year. They had to change it, but change is good and I think people will learn to like the 2013 design in time.
Having said that they could have done something better with the front grills! -
-
-
-
This is so exciting, I actually like the new designs, I don't understand why so many people don't.
I seriously wonder if the 18X will have an upgradable IPS panel though. -
Really don't like the new designs. I hope they are not final as i will be very disappointed. They don't stand out like the current ones do.
-
The new design looks great, very sleek and unique. Now I am curious to its efficiency, upgradability and feel.
