Thank you!
I'm guessing tomorrow we'll get an answer as to how customizable they'll be. They're custom feel and design is one of their main selling points so I'd be surprised if it's really as limited as the UK site shows. Here's hoping at least!

So since the M14 has a 1080p display, how would the 765m be for a questionable PC Gamer? Since its for college the form factor is kind of a big deal.
-
The 18 is "no longer available online," but the specs are posted in a nice list now!
EDIT: As a side note, it looks like the 17 will be getting the 4GB GTX 780M as well as the overclocked 4900 as its top options -

My main concern, besides not really deeply liking the redesigned hardware, is the keyboard. I love the keyboards on the Dellienware aluminum models. I actually picked up an M14x r2 basically for the keyboard when doing my daily Starbucks decompress morning run I like them so much. The newer keyboard looks much different.
-
When comparing the 660m to the 765m, about how much better is the 765m?
-
Wow, this reveal sucks so much. All I see is demo gameplay.... where the f are the laptops?
-
Actually it should be update any moment now. PC gamer says "All three Alienware models are available now."
-
Just looked and saw that it say no longer available....how when did they sell it out ?. It was just announced lol
-
He just said they will be available in a couple hours or before 9am EST in the USA.
-
GreaseMonkey90 Notebook Evangelist
so he said we would be able to order in couple of hours
-
Now they say $1499 for the m17x?? dafug!
-
I wonder how the battery will be on the 14. That's the only thing I need to know before deciding bewteen the razer blade or this.
-
Oh man I'm so ordering one soon.
-
Me too man. I plan on maxing out an M18x as long as it's under 6 grand. So excited
-
Anyone else think it's weird they've gone to 16GB ram standard, seems like a good way to get that little bit more overpriced parts from you
-
I just want a 17x with a goo graphics card and better screen.

Same here. -
Some pictures here in case you didn't get a good look
Dell unveils redesigned Alienware 14, 17 and 18 gaming notebooks, available now from $1,199 (hands-on) -
I want my money back...
-
Did that guy just swear live at the end? What incompetents, a disgrace for the presentation...
The way I looked at all those pictures, what they did:
1 - They put a foil of aluminum on the lid;
2 - They did the same for the back;
3 - The keyboard is just like the clevo one with 'alienware' simbols; It will not be impressive as I thought... I have no idea why they didn't go with the stealseries keyboard or something like that... I guess to keep the cost down.
4 - Nothing to compare to the current system of m18xR2 which is solid aluminum and magnesium. Everyone clearly stated 60% metal
-
"Best e3 in 10 years" lol
-
Laptops are very good, HORRIBLE reveal. WTH was that Alienware?
-
I have to say, i wasn't too keen on the DJ..
-
ugh, well that was the biggest waste of time.
-
Man these guys at engadget works better than those who actually unveiling it, thanks for the share

Nice laptops. Took way too long to get down to business though...
-
The new keyboard really suits the laptop
-
I felt like we were in a back room full of pot smokers and Swedish hookers. The guy was like sweating and looked drunk. Same with the lady. Poor presentation. But damn the new ones look awesome.
-
Since I'm stationed in South Korea I'm still at work and plan to drink tonight for a little bit, so when the time comes around when the website is updated I just might be drunk enough to buy a new one, or just try and buy a pair of 780's and just upgrade my current M18x.
-
Nooo.. The 18 has a 6 cell battery??!! I hope this is not real..
-
It won't perform well even it had a 12 cell battery as everything would throttle down to save power. Only good thing about having a battery is if there is a power cut-off for some reason is you won't lose everything...built in UPS is all it is.

Dell unveils redesigned Alienware 14, 17 and 18 gaming notebooks, available now from $1,199 (hands-on)
Engadget clearly says all the screens are IPS. -
Aaaaand the m14x still starts with a 720p screen, and the m17x still starts with a 900p screen. GG...
-
On AW UK, the M17 is 1080p standard, no other options are up ATM though
-
Is that sarcasm? lol all the screens are TN except for the 18" which has a nice PLS screen.
Edit: nm the article says IPS but the spec list says TN
Display options
14-inch anti-glare, 200-nit TN display (1,366 x 768)
14-inch anti-glare, 300-nit TN display (1,920 x 1,080)
17.3-inch anti-glare, 220-nit TN display (1,600 x 900)
17.3-inch anti-glare, 300-nit TN display (1,920 x 1,080)
17.3-inch TrueLife, 400-nit TN display with 3D bundle (1,920 x 1,080)
18.4-inch TrueLife PLS, 400-nit display (1920 X 1080) -
Alot of those specs are wrong. they also say the m14x has an eight cell. The dell video says the 14 will have 1080p IPS. I dont think they would make a blunder like that verbally in an official video.
I never trust spec lists. The original m17x r3 had the old r2 spec list for awhile until someone finally changed it at dell. -
So there is 2 version out there, it was said IPS is 14" 1080p and all other are TN.
If your press show press release this is what is says
-
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Engadget says all the displays are IPS. I'm so confused right now
-
dude. There are no 14 inch 1080p panels in existence. Else the new 14 inch razer blade would use one.
-
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Could be a private agreement or something, but I've seen other sites and reviewers saying that there is an IPS 1080p anti-glare panel for the Alienware 14 (The new naming system sounds kinda lame, I liked the old one better.)
-
False. The MSI GE40 has an 1080p panel.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
just that it aint sold anywhere with that panel yet.
still it doesnt matter, the only good thing about the 14 is that panel, lets not remove from them, that only good thing -
uggggh i hate how razer people talk their stuff up, the specifications are preset and you can't change them. As far as I and everyone else is concerned here, if the razer blade was going to have the highest quality panel, they'd also have the highest quality with their other material that's included and more customisation instead of a flat spec being offered with no manipulation apart from a hard drive.
I'm going to say what everyone else is thinking. ---- This is an Alienware thread, not a Razer one.
Just because one company doesn't offer something, doesn't mean another won't. -
mochaultimate Notebook Consultant
So, does anyone have confirmation on whether the panel is indeed IPS or just TN?
-
Does the 18 come with 3D?
-
Actually overclock.co.uk has 9 in stock: MSI GE40 2OC-038UK 14" HD LED, i7-4702MQ, 8GB DDR3, 128GB SSD, 750GB HDD, GTX 760M 2GB - Windows 8 [GE40 2OC-038UK]
In the netherlands, the M14 started selling, with the 1080p panel. No word in whether it's TN or IPS. -
bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
I'm pretty confident that the Alienware 14 has the option for the ips 1080p panel. I've seen some reviews saying that the display is an IPS panel as well as Engadget and Alienware themselves saying so. As to the other systems, that info is still up in the air right now.
Doesn't look like it. The Alienware M17 will be the only Alienware laptop with the 3d screen. -
I'm just gonna order the old m18x and pimp it up.
Doesn't seem like much difference for the price. -
MickyD1234 Notebook Prophet
Seems that a coordinated worldwide release is a little messed up right now. The US site is still offering the R4 (without a 1080 or 3D option) and the UK one has the R5 but again no 3D (all options state 'may delay!)
