I'm seriously pissed that i bought a 500gb hard drive and there is no 2nd caddy for my m17x-r2. People say that they come with their new m17x. Can I have a link or proof that it comes with it? I called them but they want to charge me 40 dollars for it which is still ridiculous. I asked for the supervisor and he just started panicking saying the same thing.

I along with several others on this forum called in and told them that the system was supposed to ship with it, and we were sent it for free. So I'd definitely call back and demand that they send you one along with the interposer for FREE. I know at least 3 of us have already had this discussion with the dell reps, and they should honor it. In my case they sent it to me NBD without any fight at all, so I'd definitely call back, and escalate if they don't honor it...Good luck! :)

It came with the M17X R1. To the best of my knowledge, it doesn't ship with the R2 model. It didn't start shipping with the R1 model until later as well. Sorry

Go to dell support, enter your service tag, click "system configuration" on the left and find the "original configuration" tab. look toward the bottom and you'll see:
    1 F584N ASSEMBLY..., BRACKET..., HDD, W/CON, SECOND..., M17X

That's your proof that they owe you one.

Cal AW tech support and they'll next day you a kit. Make sure to ask for the bracket and interposer or you'll likely be back on the phone a day later. Oh, and you may receive 0,1, or 4 hdd mounting screws. Results vary.

Confirmed - they do NOT ship the second HDD caddy installed in the newer R2 models. However, they are very good about sending you the parts you need, free of charge.

Do NOT call Dell about it - they will want to sell it to you for $75 + shipping. (the support person even tried to sell me "the bracket and screws only" [i.e. no interposer] for $35 when I balked at her audacity)

    Call 1-800-ALIENWARE

    Option 4 for Tech Support
then Option 3 for All Other Support

The rep will ask for your Service Tag and then will want to confirm your email and street address as well as your name.

Explain that the secondary hard drive caddy and interposer are missing from your new laptop and they should have no problem at all sending you one. There should be no charge for this unless maybe you are having it shipped to someplace that requires them to charge extra shipping for it.
