    Hi

A friend of mine ordered a second 3870 (173€) a week ago and yesterday he put it in his m17.
The AW Guy who guided him told him, that the 4789 would be soon avalible!

But not only this! He also said: 2x4870x2 will be avalible ... means Quadcrossfire @ m17

Has sb more infos @ this? I normaly don't belive what "one guy" says ;)

    Greetings
    Julian

Not four physical cards, but two cards with two GPUs on each. So yeah, four(ish).

Frack. Is this supposed to make me feel about my recently purchased M17?

There will always be newer and better for less money.
Sadly in the PC world, this happens in cycles of like 3 months.

There's been speculation about the 4870s for quite some time now.. OCZ claims March 09 for a release. However, some other sources say it may hit the market a bit sooner. Guess we just wait and see. :) I'll just sell off my cards and buy 2 4870s :p

It it possible to sell the cards to AW? (3870)

Rumors say ... around 600€ you'll have to pay for the 4870 Crossfire ...

If this is true ... or not ... I don't know ... I also don't know if it should be the rice for one 4870x2 oder 2x4870x2 ...

Edit: isn't it possible to rename the Thread (I forgotten to set the @ m17 behind the titel)

Yeah, I understand that, but for me, this cycle took place in one week.

    Oh well, that's life.

Ok this could be the reason why AW wants to put 4 gpus in the m17.

    One 4850 is slower than 2 3780 CrossfireX :(

Maybe newer test bring better scors but:
    Core 2 Duo P8600 + 4850 = 9300 3DMark06 Points
    Core 2 Duo X9100 + 4850 > 10000 3DMarko6 Points ...

    I expected more

vantage for the mobility 4850 would most likely be around the P5000 range with the gpu score possibly being 5000ish, so the MR 4870 should be higher...

2x4870x2 if its real, whats the Watt useage and nm die process.

Because NVIDIA and ATI should be changeing to 40nm by Q3 2009.

Tempted oh so tempted if True

But the Angel on my Right shoulder says wait for Core i7 and 40nm GPU's, which should be cool running and nicely overclockable

where as the Devil on my left shoulder says Mobile 4870 is a Day 1 must buy. Especially since Alienware's HQ is just down the street. And I can go buy it and pick it up Fresh, and watch my baby being made.

I think they don't care :) ... As the m17 is a desktopreplacement, who cares about the time you can play with the battery ... ok if you are in plain you care ... but in a car or in a train you normaly have a (don't know the word^^) thing where you can plug in your m17 for "Watt support" :D

I am not quit sure but is the 4870 cip made in a "smaler" way? I am not quite informed about "nm" ans so ...
maby sb can explain it pls :)
    Greetings

My laptop has a single 3870X2 in it right now, which can push 16,700 3dmarks.
I can actually put three more in, and have 8 graphics cards if i wanted to. But hey why do that, cause I dont game at all :D
Silly laptop buyers, tricks are for kids. Building custom laptops is where its at.
    Portable 2U goodness in a 24" lappy ;)

Actually putting two 4870x2's in a laptop is such a bad move. The M17 already gets really hot, its definitely going to have heating problems with those cards.
Heck my 3870X2 uses 196 watts at full load, thats a lot of heat to be dispelled.
