If you have hybrid mode enabled in BIOS (default setting btw) then 250MB is being used for the onboard 9400M. If you want to have all 4GB available then you have to go into BIOS and disable hybrid and disable the onboard card.

The dedicated video card(s) have their own dedicated memory. The integrated onboard video card on the other hand doesn't. 256MB of your system memory is reserved for your integrated video card (the 9400M G) when you have it enabled in the BIOS (with or without Hybrid Graphics enabled). If you wish to use your full amount of system memory, switch Hybrid Graphics and Integrated Graphics off in the system BIOS. Of course, you won't be able to switch to the 9400M G on the fly to save power when you have it shut off in your system BIOS.

By the way, this question is being asked quite often and still many people don't know what's happening. Therefore it might be good to add an explanation to the top post of the stickied M17x thread if it isn't there already.
