I am thinking about turning my slave card back into a master card, since thats how it started life, and alienware is the people who set it to slave for my crossfire system.

Does anyone have a copy of their 3870 Master bios? I obviously have the slave bios already, and I used to have the 3870 Master bios on a master card, but I sold it on ebay and didnt think to copy it.

    Can someone help?

    Thanks!

    Jon

    Someone's gotta have this :)

If you have a 3870 can you please use gpu-z and just click that little 'save bios' button and then email me the file ?? :)

    Thanks!

Have you successfully flashed a slave 3870 yet?

lol. Haven't started as I am traveling from Chicago to Cali today and ran out of power on the alienware, but my work lappy is going strong. Is it tough to flash them? I've read up on it, in someones thread, and it seems straight forward, if you have advice, I'd certainly listen.

I've done quite a bit of GPU BIOS flashing in my day, and I know Mandrake has too. Is the system having problems? If it's not, I wouldn't do any unnecessary BIOS flashing.

When I tried flashing the slave 3870 it would say it's successful but the settings would never take. The master gpu didn't have the same issue.

Now when you say you want to turn it back into a master was it originally a master card?

Right, I am NOT having any problems, I am not attempting to fix a bad card or anything, its because I sold the Master and now I want to do some benchmark testing between a 4850 single and a 3870 single.

The card WAS originally a MASTER, Alienware when they sent me my ebay system apparently is taking masters and flashing them as slaves. The even scribbled out the 'master' sticker and wrote 'slave' in black marker on the card. Really kinda 'shady' like what major company does this kind of system configuration, it lacks professionalism when you pull your card out and see some nerd wrote 'slave' in black perm marker and scribbled the Master sticker.

So anyways, yes, its a real master, that was flashed to a slave by Alienware. So now I want to return it to its rightful spot as Master :)

Anything to worry about? Just follow this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=363888????

Mandrake, what process did you use to flash the bios? That thread I linked to, died and no one ever came up with a solution to the error message folks were getting.

Not that Mandrake needed it, but I just rep'd him for his help in PM's. I was able to do it without incident using: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread230061.html

I didnt do any of the editing, just used someones Master bios and flashed my old slave to a master again. Confirmed all is good!

    YEAH!!!!

    Oh well congrats mate......

hows the 4850? What a shame on you not getting those extra 4850s that you tried to order. Ive just had a windfall and would have given you the price that you wanted....life is cruel sometimes.
    Happy benching anyhow.

WHO said i didnt get them? lol. (ok not all of them, only 2) Thats why I am getting rid of the last 3870 I have, which has successfully been converted to a Master :)

I do have (semi) in my possession, (2) 4850 Masters, which based on some readings should actually work together (with a very slight modification to the cpu case, NOT the cards). I say semi in my possession because the newest one got delivered to work last week, and I was out on vacation all week. So only tomorrow do I finally get it!!

So I'll test tomorrow. If you want to offer me a deal I cant refuse, then shoot me a pm :)
