Basically its the question of weather you want to watch movies or play games which are 3D enable on the move or only when youre at home. Your choice...

I think what vanqish said is do you NEED to have 3D on a laptop to enjoy it while on the move or you're just going to use 3D while at home where a desktop will do the job perfectly for less $$

3d on a desktop, the higher powered desktops can crank out 3d way better than a laptop can, plus a idea of a gaming laptop is to be able to game on battery while on the go..... do you really want to be "that guy" wearing goofy glasses and looking at your computer in public?

You can kind of have it both ways, the Nvidia GPU's let you use the 3D features on an external monitor/TV that's 3D capable, even if the laptop has a 60Hz non-3D capable screen.

It does make more sense to have the power of a desktop GPU (or two) if you're really going to game in 3D. The mobile GPUs are okay, but you really have to dial the settings back.

Not sure about the specifics of how the 3D-enabled laptop is set up, but it should be possible to set it to true 120hz when 3D is disabled, which would be completely worth it for gaming even if you never use the 3D glasses.

A lot of people are buying the new 120hz monitors to use them at 120 FPS rather than using the 3D glasses gimmick. The game play is much smoother as it essentially doubles the amount of frames you see when aiming a cross-hair and turning or something like that.

If you could enable 120hz on the 3D-enabled screen I would buy it and toss the glasses away.

You can set it to run at 120Hz yes.
