What is everyone else getting? I downloaded and ran the free version (should I get the pay version?) and managed 5532 for a score which seems very low. I haven't ran any games yet but otherwise am loving the machine thus far (just got it today haha)

That's what you should expect with a 8700GT.
    Good luck with your lappie.

    congratulations otaku

what was the Alienware 3Dmark06 score. this can be found in the document named "My Alienware" found on your desktop.
whatever that score is just knock around 500 off it.

the average for the 8800 is 10,000 from AW but a real reading of roughly 9,6000ish

oh ok well as long as its normal performance. Kinda makes me wish I had the 8800. But spending the extra 300 when I already spent 2000 seemed a bit much. Its performing about as well as my 1 year old desktop (which cost about the same) which kinda bugs me but its portable so thats cool :) I think I'll enjoy it the next few years so long as no issues arise

Well... You should have ordered only 1GB of RAM, no intel turbo memory, 120GB HDD and then you could have get the 8800GTX and upgraded it yourself.
Now... it's too late. So just enjoy it and have lots of fun with it.
If you could tell us what are your impressions about it, that would be great.

Did upgrade the ram myself from 1 gig to four. I heard the intel turbo would help with boot time among other things and I wanted a nice big HD to work with (filled 27 gigs just tonight)

So far I'm loving it. Love the styling and the lights. Haven't played on it yet but otherwise seems to perform well. Much nicer than my six year old dell I was using. Shipped alot sooner than I thought. I appreciate the cool extras to.

It was cheaper to get the HD through AW than elsewhere

I suppose I could have bought a 8800 if I skimped and got the cheapest cpu I wanted a good all around machine though.

turbo memory has NO performance benefit when you have more than 2 gigs of ram. congrats, you just got ripped off.

If one of the RAM sticks go bad, you will have the turbo memory as a temporary backup solution. :)

not sure what the 52 mbps is for?

my 5 year old Hp desktop has petium(R) 4 cpu 2.6ghz and 512 ram and it does it in about 2 hrs and is wirelessly connected through the same router
kinda new to the comp tech knowlegde but wouldn't the intel core be better then the pentium 4?
and thanks for the welcome..... been keeping up with the m15x forums for a while now just been to shy to post till now

im using a bt home hub with Downstream 4,224 Kbps & Upstream 448 Kbps so yours is faster than mine so should mannage it in about 15-20 minutes.
its meant to be 8mb but the usual excuse is you are to far from the exchange to get the full speed.

Well i looks like my wireless router isn't as good as it should be.
got it directly connected now and it's gonna take 40-45 mins with a pretty steady 260mb peaking at around 330mb, looks like i'ma have to et a new wireles router.
back to 1 of my other questions.......wouldn't the intel core 2.5ghz in my new m15x be faster then my pentium 4 2.6ghz from my 5 yearold HP desktop?
my desktop was bout twice as fast as the m15x with 2.5ghz when trying to download wirelessly

Yes, the Core 2 Duo will definitely be faster than a P4, because of the dual cores.

Yeah, seems about right. It is a 580mb download...

JoLuRi2542 having a good connection to ur router will only affect your download speed if your connection speed to your router falls BELOW you Internet speed. As this is very unlikely unless you have sole access to something like a university internet connection you router will not be the thing slowing your download. I believe most routers have a wireless speed of around 10mb/s and the fastest home speeds are only a max of 8 and this won't be your true dl'd speed anyway if i'm correct. Therefore your router should not be doing anything, a 580mb file isn't small and you should expect it to take a long time, all depending on your dl'd speed i get around 200kb/s and so it took around 45-30 mins for me.

Hope this made sense and helped
    DK

Thanx 4 the info.......my real concern was that my 5 year old hp desktop w/ pentium 4 2.6ghz was getting half the wireless download time then my new m15x was getting with intel core 2.5 ghz

but i know little bout the tech of a computer so it could just be me :)
I have learned alot though from reading these forums so would like to thank you guys for that also

That's right. It's nothing to do with your CPU. More likely a setting in your wireless config, or a router anomaly, or something with your ISP, or even a choke on the site you were downloading from. Sounds like you've got it squared up now, though.

since he is running 3dmark at 1440 x 900 its expected the score to be like that. the other scores are high because they were run at the default resolution using the free version. if he ran it at the default resolution he would probably get 9900 - 10000 something.

I believe that AW runs it at 1280x720 res (standard). I own the full version of 3dmark so I can run it at 1440x900 (native) or any other resolution, hence the lower score.
