My 7700 finally died. My p4 3.4 HTT is still good but I don't know what socket it is. I know I have a Clevo D900t board. (3 Years old) I was thinking of dropping all my good parts into a micro atx if it is possible. just for the fun of it. So my question is:

What socket do I have or do I need to support my CPU?

    Thanks for your help.

    It is a socket LGA775
Your laptop uses a normal desktop processor, so you can simply buy a used or new LGA775 motherboard and your processor will work in it.

I did see at one point a Jetway, or Biostar miniITX Socket LGA775 motherboard which had sodimm memory slots, which allows you to use the memory and processor from your dead laptop.

So many choices and I just don't know enough about recycling. I do know my dual optical drives are slimline, less than a year old and may not work, Probably need a new HDD, will need an adapter for my power supplies, And I would really like to use my Keyboard and monitor. I know as well my RAM is DDR2 PC 4200 but I don't know the speed. My Plan was to install everything into this:

or something similar. I work offshore and decided to try my hand at a waterproof computer. (Only when in transit)
I forgot to mention I will be running XP. Haven't decided on 32 or 64 bit as of yet.

All of those motherboards uses standard desktop memory.
There are motherboards which use sodimm memory, but just looking for them, the cheapest one was $220, which is a rip off.

if you are building a homemade water toght machine, I recommend getting a Micro ITX motherboard,
The Intel one has onboard graphics, and one pci expansion slot
The Zotac is a better motherboard which has the ability to have a real graphics card in it.

    or

These motherboards will use desktop memory

You can use the harddrives you have, if they are SATA
If you have the PATA drives, you can buy an adaptor to use them
The optical drive can be used.
You need a ATAPI converter to use it

So the micro ATX's just aren't compatible with my parts? If the RAM is the only issue and I could use the majority of the rest, the ATX's have some features the Itx's lack. I figured I'd have to shell out a little x-tra money for something. I'd like onboard 802.11 b/g. Hmmmm..... maybe my new i7 build will settle me for a while when it's done.

A question about my monitor. I have researched how to convert a laptop screen into a desktop screen. And with enough drive it can be done. All the threads I followed were several years old. So does anyone know of a simple ribbon to D-sub or DVI adapter? Additionally I would need to plug in the power to the back light. (Could this be done through the mobo?) I think I'm grasping at straws here but it never hurts to ask.

Think I'll put this on hold until the other one's finished.

Thanks for any comment's left. I will be checking back in to see If I can learn anything.
