Looks like March is confirmed. Hope our M17's get in the mix.

Thanks Thimk!
-
they should. I'm already looking forward to E-wrecked's 3dmark scores...
-
never fails...upgrades announced right after I "pull the trigger"...I hope these cards will be compatible with the m17...
-
well, cancel your order then, Hamish. I'd do it.
-
ughh yeah that would be a kick in the teeth if it wasn't compatible..
-
yeah...when I bought my m9750 they assured me the upgrade to the m8800gtx would be available...
my concern is that the m17 apparently has 1 mxmIII slot and one mxm IV....if the new cards are mxmIV then we will only be able to use 1...not cool...
I'm in phase 4 now...I guess I can cancel still eh? -
phase 4 is the last phase you can cancel.
-
too much pressure!!!!
LOL - I'm not gonna cancel...the rig will be sweet and will last for awhile as is...will keep my fingers crossed that the mobility 4870 is compatible with the m17
I think mxm III is the most commonly used interface ATM...it seems they would design the card to be usable by the greatest number of people - no? -
Lets hope so Hamish.. lol
-
Yup this is what I was waiting For BAby!
But March 09 Really shocked my I thought at least October.
double the power of the 3000 series of cards
so a mobile 4870 is Twice as powerfull as a 3870 hmmmm... I wonder how many backflips can I do from here till March in sheer Joy -
like with the xps model
-
what about it?
-
if me: then meaning it could be geared for a notebook like the xps where they use 2 gpus on one board.
-
why would they do that?
-
well you guys can forget about an upgrade if this is true...lol
look at the connector.
courtesy of shznittle -
yea john, i saw that and posted that pic along with a 3800 series mobile gpu on another thread...not looking good if the slit on the connector is smack in the middle. the slit on the 3800s is off to the side, close to the right edge of the connector. not looking good at all ; ;
-
yeah. that's where i got it from..where are my manners..lol
-
ATI phtoshops there own marketing photo's. The actual 4000 series cards are not available for a photo shoot.
The palm pre is a perfect example. They show the packaging on one of engadgets articles but they are quick to point out it may not be the final boxing. Company's design the photos based on actual engineering drawings and not the real product, due to the fact it's still out of final stage. They are just artistic mock up's and not the real end product.
I wouldn't begin reverse engineering on a digital photo that predates the release. -
yeah....the background maybe, but that is an actual card. what everyone is hoping is...it's not the only type they are making.
-
I see. Knowing is half the battle.
-
On the bright side, I got 4GB of RAM today -
-
these WILL BE compatible everyone. i know for a fact they will be with the ocz version and the aw is no different. so dont worry they will work in the current m17's count on it
-
2. Logically, would the installation process be similar when compared to a desktop? Or would there be special or extra hardware requried for power, cooling etc.? -
-
prices i can not post yet. and even what i am told as of now is speculation but they are not to bad. no where near what nvidia tries to charge
-
Just out of curiosity. What are the options in case you want to get rid of the 3870 in order to get some more money for the 4870's instead of just throwing them away ?
-
for sale forums, im sure someone with an mxm III laptop would want to try them out.
-
So basically try sell one ATI at a time ? Since i doubt many will want to buy them both.
-
I bet there are some m9750 owners out there who would like to have a crack at them...
-
Might as well give it a go
But first! Lets wait for AW to start selling them
-
I emailed AW 5 times asking about purchasing the ATI cards for my 9750...they won't even respond to emails....I've been sending them emails re the status of my order and they won't respond to them either...I've sent 3.
So that makes 8 un-answered emails over a 3 week period - I wonder what the problem is over there... -
I wouldnt say either when the new cards are going to be available cause that will mean people will stop buying the 3870's and wait for the newer ones.
As for the status order, id say give them a call, they cant ignore than -
Would AW sell these directly?
-
i don't see why they wouldn't. they might even offer some sort of upgrade program, like Dell did for the m1730 and the 8700M-GT/8800M-GTX.
-
They would be stupid not to.
-
After reading that Ichime had ran them (3870's)successfully in his 9750 I was hoping AW would sell them to 9750 owners as an upgrade...it would have made up for the lack of support for the m8800gtx in my mind...
They're a bit of a different company to deal with I must say....but I really like my 9750, I think I'm really going to like the m17.... -
you know, seeing how a lot of m17 owners will upgrade to HD4870, they'll be looking to sell of their "old" 3870s... and this is where the m9750 owners come in

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol true. but i cant wait til march. thats sooooo long. aaaaaarrrrrrrgh.
I'll wait. it will save me headaches. But it better come Feb 28 11:59:59 PM Other wise i'll just get the 3870 crossfire
Edit: Nevermind i just looked at the calender. i'll just get one 3870 for now and play at 720p until. -
Um, what zfactor? The new 4870 Mobility cards have been confirmed to not be compatible with the Arima's MXM. Where are you getting your top secret news?
That's right. NOT compatible. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Can you show us a link.
-
Plasma, you're off your rocker. Actially, it's neither confirmed or denied. But, if you spend more time and do some research you'll find that it's more likely than not. The 4k series should fit.
-
i hope it fits, it would be stupid if it didnt.
-
-
So let me get this straight, the M17 will only be able to take on card or 2? If thats the case then I would assume everyone would go with the 4870x2 correct?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah i would go with the 4870 crossfire. there is a 4850x2 but that card is huge.
-
4850x2 is not a crossfire card. It's a single card with dual GPUs. I'm sure you know that don, just clarifying. Just like the drivers that install on everyones current M17 setup saying 3870x2 - Not proper. If your Display driver says 3870x2 then you're not using the proper driver.
-
the whole hing about 2 of them not fitting because there wasnt 2 of the slots they were differnt is crazy ...with that logic what we have in there now 2 crards with 2 diff slots ... maybe i missed some thing though....
-
Curious...would it be possible to run a 3870 & 9800m GTX in SLIFire?
