Anybody manage to find a good Canadian sales rep? the most I've been able to get was 12% off. That's kinda sad on a $3200 purchase imo

Is this really necessary to post an entire new thread for this?

I think it's ok to have another thread for this, but I am a little Biased heh. Dell Canada reps suck man, 12% isn't bad. I just got off the phone with a guy who refused to give me more than $100 off. We should have done some sort of group order like the Americans in another thread did heh.

i will certainly be down for a group order. Aim for 20% off. And sorry for starting another discount thread, but I can't find any discount threads for Canadian buyers.

This is far from a waste of a thread. If any other Canadians are interested in trying to get a decent deal they should post, so we can see how many we would have to work with.

My Dell Canada discount was 7% on a m17x. If you are buying a Dell laptop than the discount may be higher as those prices are inflated. The 12% discount for Alienware m17x sounds very good.

I liked the mouse pad on my XPS as it was smooth and comfortable to use all day. The m17x pad has a honeycomb texture and is rough on the skin. You may want to upgrade your mouse at the same time.

The red color is spectacular and have had a lot of positive feedback. A friend has the black and it looks rather drab. Have not seen the silver.

The red glyphs wallpaper looks the best with the nebula red color. Alienware does offer free wallpaper on the web but NOT the ones offered with the laptop purchase. If anyone knows where to download them please post.

The Orion Messenger bag is really well built and looks rather chic.

I really like the SSD driver but they do fill up really quickly. I have two systems with windows 7 64 and neither system realizes that I have a SSD. The Windows Performance Index score on (the hard drive only) on both systems Alienware & Falcon Northwest both appear a little weaker than expected. But are very happy with both SSD drives. When they run out I plan on replacing them with a larger one at a reduced cost. Regular drives are about 1/5 the price and will be for the next 5 years. SSD drives do boot faster but are slower to shut down.

I ordered with a single 5870 and have played left4dead2 at maximum settings and the game chews through the maximum settings. The only reason for the Dual CF would be for a larger external monitor.

My rep was suppose to hold the order until the CF came out. Unfortunately he shipped early and now I have to either return or get an upgrade kit.

If anyone has a part number(s) for upgrading the card please post.

    Thanks

Thanks for your advice. Do you think the upgrade kit would be problematic with software or install?

lol, I already own an M17x bud, a black one at that, I know all about them. I've had one since the first R1 was released. You're not telling me anything I don't already know.

Your rep obviously knew what he was doing, and purposely lied to you, I would send it back and order it from a different rep so the one that lied to you doesn't get his commission.

Willing to go in for a group buy. I think I get around 8 percent with my epp, but I will try asking if there is a better discount for Boeing ;)

They would be via phone. Someone would call a rep, if the rep agreed to give a big discount for a certain "confirmed" amount of unit's sold, his number and extension would be given to the other buyers and they would all contact the one rep and he would deal with them all, and apply the discount to them.

    Already ordered mine earlier today.
Save a bit with EPP although it's harder for us to get a decent discount then it is for Americans. Oh well.

Now I forsee many delays as 5870's get backordered to hell and back.

Crap I was counting on getting 15% off the M17x, might mean the M15x for me... Not that that's a bad thing.

Dell/Alienware has put aside 5870's for production and warranty but NO PARTS for upgrade (at least not in Canada). As of right now they do not have a part number to upgrade a single 5870 to a CF 5870 or a time frame but they do have an estimated price, $529 for the additional card and $20 for the CF connector. Can you guess why the part number is not available $$$$$ Can you guess why they want you to hold on to your new m17x rather than return it. $$$$$$.

My love affair with Alienware was short lived, 2-3 days. With a heavy sigh I have boxed up the beast and are returning it with haste to Dell. The rep was rather good about it. My discount was a little higher this time to compensate for the trouble.

For those wanting to upgrade later this year it will be expensive.
    $529 for extra 5870
    $20 for CF connector
    $150 for 250W power supply.
    Headaches-endless.

Rather than spend $700 on an upgrade I am happy to report that I have returned the unit today and have ordered with the dual 5870.

My discount was 10% this time as the price was heavier than the unit. Point out to your rep that the USA site is offering a discount on 1920x display upgrade while Canada is not.
