I've just finished a round of R6 Vegas: 2 and I've noticed that my GPU temps hit around ~72C under load. When idling, I'm somewhere around ~50C.

    Are these normal temps?

Its a little hot for comfort. 80c and below is my considered safe temps. Some will say 85-90c but that runs closer to the thermal shut off point.

Some cards will downclock around 90-105c. Thats why its best to stay as far as you can.

Try raising the back of your notebook, get a notebook cooler, etc.

That should be right, played Mirror's Edge max settings and wound up around 70c.

-Though 80c and up is kinda dangerous, my laptop is raised on all four corners with bottle caps at all times.

I've been through this whole GPU heat argument with tons of people already so I'll just tell you the shorter version. The highest that you want your GPU to go is from 88C - 92C. Anywhere lower than that is considered fine. If you go from forum to forum you will see that a lot of notebooks get that hot and some even get into the 100's quite often (not good at all).

    72C is amazing.

OK I just finished playing Devil May Cry 2xAA 1400x900,
the card was at 92C When I finished playing, does anyone know if this could be a problem with my notebook? Its the M15x with the 8800 card, I got a notebook cooler coming soon but it still could be a problem with the notebook no?

yeah, for the most part mine hit about 70-78ºC, but left 4 dead runs my GPU's up at 87ºC, one time peaking at 96ºC.

thats perhaps the only thing i don't like about that game.

Dont blame the game. AW has been known to have unsatisfactory cooling especially for a high end machine.
