Has anyone with the Alienware 8800M GTX successfully overclock with a bios change ?? I was reading on the Sager forums of people using the 9800M GT bios on their 8800M GTX as they are basically the same card and doing a slight overclock and getting some nice improvements in performance. Let us know. God Bless :)

The newest Ntune will over clock the GPU, not a direct Bios overclock, but it can easily be changed on the go.

I overclocked mine via Ntune a few times (just testing) I was running at 865 and 555, with no overheating or crashing Note: I only tested for a few minutes. It also improved my 3dmark06 score about 300 points. I probably have gradually gone higher, but I was just testing to see if it worked. The X36 Bios will most likely be the best to OC since it dose bump the fan speeds.

Note: OC will void your warranty, I take no responsibility in what you do to your computer, OC at your own risk.

I would think that if it was possible to do an overclock on our video cards it would be something to hold us over for a little while till we get some new cards in such as the new Nvidia 260M /280M....hopefully :D Then again an overclocked 8800M GTX / 9800M GT may be just as fast or faster than a stock 260M !!! Let me know what you all think. God Bless :)

So this is my first post......anyway....I have the 9800m GT. With the newest driver direct from nvidia and using ntune i can run 585/884 with no problems. With this OC im getting around 10112 in 3d mark 06. I think there was a thread awhile back in the Sager forums about a bios OC but why bother.....just use ntune on the fly.

Which version of NTUNE and drivers are you all using to overclock ??

Another question is an overclocked 8800M GTX / 9800M GT about equal to or faster than a 9800M GTX ??

neither. the 9800m-gtx is better equipped physically (oh, stop snickering), it has more stream processors (really, it's rather childish) etc. you can't make that up simply by overclocking.

Nope. The stock 260M has 950MHz on the memory clock. Good luck getting the 9800M GT there without artifacting after just one minute of ATiTool.

In my own experience the 8800GTX OC's horribly in the M15X. Got about a 1-2% increase before it downclocked due to heat. Your milage will obviously vary but the heat dissipation is really not great in such a small notebook.

I would think that the m15x would have better cooling system than some that I have seen. I know that the m15x uses a seperate fan for the CPU and one for the GPU. Whereas most 15.4 inchers have a single fan. What does the Clevo 860TU have double or single fan ??

It is mainly the fan speeds that mess the m15X up, they don't hit full speed until the GPU reaches 88C. If it came on at a more reasonable 78C it would be able to cool better, but it would be "louder" and some people would not like that. Plus the Heat spreader is kind of wimpy.

Sorry I am a newbie on the M15X, but is there a BIOS version that makes the fan come on sooner ?? I really do not mind the fan coming earlier or the noise. I mean it is a strong gaming laptop so it needs extra cooling !!! Let me know if there is such a BIOS available. God Bless :)

I just flashed to the x36 and it seems it is only the CPU fan that is effected, the GPU fan still was the normal 88C cycle.

Here is a guide that was a while ago,
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=269345

You won't be able to overclock it much, with out overheating or running in to voltage problems.
I usually run my M15x on a AC vent when I overclock so it has 50F air blowing right into the fans, that helps bring those temps down drastically. I tested it on the wooded desk, ran OZone fur for about 5 min, saw my temps go to 94C, put it on the AC vent, went to about 78C in less than a minute. :D
I was running at 860/585 (via ntune OC) and I got my first ever >9000 point score. Note: my CPU holds me back a lot, I need to upgrade that poor thing, 2.1GHz.

It's one beast of a fan though.

Hi i'm new on the forum , have read earlyer that OC ing your 8800m gtx trough BIOS will void your warranty?
I'm not 100% clear on that like void it if something happends due to cause of overclock , there's no other way of them knowing, rite?

Hi, I purchased my m15x 2.6GHz /9800m GT and I've read a lot of forums and I recommend no overclocking beyond 572/900 because it may run fine in some games but if tested on some high-end graphics games like crysis you may damage your GPU... but also you may notice the famous crash that happens after some hours of gaming with the oc gpu.

I have very big efficent fan for cooling the family room and a notebook fan and I use both on my m15x when gaming to cool my processors and my cpu is always above 70 C and the maximum temp on my GPU is 72 C ... ands thats not a reason for a crash or a sudden underclock on the memory and core busses... I read that the 2 factors of crashes and sudden underclocks while gaming was temperature and voltage. So dont rely only on the temperature take on consideration the energy that the processors (oc cpu or oc gpu) have to withdraw from the AC adapter.

I would appreciate if someone knows of a good program to increase the voltage efficently so higher overclocks can be reached...I heard of NiBiTor but not completely convinced so... I would appreciate some opinions

yes you can flash the video card's bios with one that has unlocked voltage.
There is a guide on how to do it on here some were (marcus' thread)

    UMM,
My ac is the Air Conditioning vent in Scott Hall at UNC-Charlotte. As for a url I can not help you, but you should be able be able to find some in your house if you have Air Con.
