4GB RAM modules are like 400 dollars, making this an 800 dollar upgrade.
Just something for you to consider.

    You need 200 pin DDR2 SO-DIMMs.

Oops, looks like the price dropped. That's what I'd get probably, voltage is right, lifetime warranty, decent latency.

XFD I can't imagine someone actually buying this, even for gaming. This sort of thing is for professionals.

You can get 2x2GB = 4GB for about £50. Your laptop needs 2x4GB = 8GB. You cannot use 4x2GB, there are only two SO-DIMM slots.

He is not using 4x2GB, he is using 2x4GB. Probably a mistype.

Why did you just revive this thread? Any anywhere you can get 4GB for £50 it's obviously not a single 4GB stick. Reread the post I was referring to.

Hi guys, I am thinking along these lines too...

But most of the sites are claiming the M15x can only handle 4Gb maximum.

Did you ever get 4Gb or 8 GB istalled??

    Regards,

    Win

That's not true, the m15x now officially supports 8GB, it's available as an option if you order one now.

What's the point though? It's difficult to even fully utilise 4GB, 8GB is complete overkill.

I can easily fill up 8gb with a good few virtualisation machines..

vmware and / or virtualpc can give you a nice virtual cluster on the one laptop so long as you have the memory to run them all consecutively.

And hyperV on windows7 looks like great way of spending ram...

32 bit by nature only can address 4GB total addresses. Since you've got some address space on other hardware, you'll never be able to utilize a full 4GB on 32 bit.
