so right now its at 94 .. thats after cleaning fans and all.. should i be worried? *graphics card*
whats the max temp for the 7600?
-
thats danger temp and will start damaging your GPU.
If you are overheating... usually any temp over 90C degrees is bad.
when was the last time that you cleaned out the fans and vents thoroughly...?
if never, then thats why.
1) remove battery
2) remove/unscrew the panels on the bottom of the notebook to get to fans and vents (if you can)
3) use flashlight to look through vents for the dust (if you cant see the light on the other end, then the vents are clogged up)
4) go outside, get some compressed air (cans or compressor @ 50 PSI) and give the vents a good airing out all directions ( concentrating on the vents)
.... you might want to brace the fan blade(s) when airing it out (with a toothpick or paperclip to prevent it from spinning out too much)
.... or use short bursts (1-2 secs) of air instead of bracing the fans.
5) go get some Q-tips and swab the fan blades and the area around it
6) then go do a second airing with compressed air (all directions again focusing on the fans and vents) to push out the dust that was dislodged from the Q-tips
7*) Now go use the flashlight again and look through the vents (shine the flashlight from the fan, you look through the other end) for anymore dust clogs.
8) Then start up the notebook... and let the fans cycle up (use the Fan Toggle at max speed if your system has it) to push out any other dust that might have been stuck.
If all goes well you should be able to close up the notebook and...
you're done.
*repeat this step until its cleaned out.
Thats pretty much it.
Just make sure to do this every two-three months... it should take about 15-20min per cleaning if you want to be thorough.

Gaming notebooks are a new thing, you must realize that you have to take some extra care of them over typical use notebooks:
1) Battery: to maintain the longevity of any rechargeable battery
- you must NEVER overcharge it [especially for long durations of time] by keeping it plugged into AC
- when it reaches 100% you should unplug it and let it discharge to 5-15%, then plug it back to power
- OR you can just charge it to 50%+ and remove the battery and store in cool place.. not the fridge [remember to use it occasionally 3-4 time a year to charge and discharge it].
2.) Heat: to prevent a healthy notebook from overheating
- ALWAYS use the notebook on a clean, hard & flat surface
- RECOMMENDED to be used on a notebook cooler... namely the Zalman ZM-NC1000 or ZM-NC2000
- check your fans underneath occasionally (at least once a month or two) for any dust clogs [clean them out with Q-tips and air cans/compressors]
- ALWAYS monitor the temps (CPU, GPU, HDD, etc..) to watch for fluctuations, which would indicate overheating by dust usually
(for Clevo notebooks) use the Fan Toggle to switch all fans to Max Speed when gaming and such.
By doing these simple things, your entire system will easily last for more than 3 years. -
Do you hear the fan going and is this happing surfing the web or game play/
Mine runs at 55c to 60c useing websites. Games about 78c 80c. -
Dont block the vents on the bottom and sides/back.
If you block any airflow, that would cause overheating as well. -
That's awefully warm.
At 100 degrees C, water boils....
-
like two days ago...
swapped hds in and out of laptops and i clean everything while im at it, spray it all down... i got myself all covered in dust. :/ -
after the clean, the temps are still that high?
-
hay Gophn the temps I listed is normal for this laptop. When I got this laptop it was running at cpu at 100c gpu at 110c due to the fan not running then it would shut off. But if I rebooted the laptop fan would kick on loud. Alienware fix the problem but if he has a lower cpu and gpu it might be the same issue. But it sounds like a dusty laptop
My setup was
Core 2 2.33ghz
2gb of ram
250gb hard drive
geforce go 7600 256mb
Listed below is normal temp
Speedfan scores and Core temp 0.95 are the same.
Temps
Core 0 61c
Core 1 61c
Gpu 71C
Local Temp 59
Remote temp 66 -
The 7600 as most 7th series card should have an upper limit of 110C , but at that temp, it's already fried .
As Gophn said, anything above 85-90C is not healthy, regardless of what fanboys will tell you. You can
-try applying ArcticSilver 5 for the GPU and CPU,
-undervolt the CPU
-get a good notebook cooler
-raise the back a bit etc. -
^^ Exactly.
GPU's should NOT pass 90-95C degrees because Nvidia programs the GPU to downclock at the point to cool it down to help prevent overheat damage.
- and the threshold temp is about 100-110C... which would shut down the system.
CPU's should not float past 75-80C degrees, or it will also cause instabilities and/or overheating damage.
Gaming notebooks need to be taken care of more than a typical use notebooks... because of the heat.
I am always around to warn you to take care of dust and use a good notebook cooler (like Zalman ZM-NC1000 or NC2000)... to help the longevity of your system. -
After the motherboard replacement the highest I seen the laptop run is 84c. Which is normal for a intel cpu.
-
it think the 84C temp is high but safe for a GPU, but a CPU with that temp is just crazy heat... even if the Intel max thermal spec is 100C.
-
im floating between 94-95 now.. :/ yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah....
-
- are the fans working?
- are the vents really cleared out?
(use a flashlight, shine it at the fan(s), look through the vent on the exhaust side to check if youi can see the light)
if the top two questions is yes (they better be), then it might be the heatsink/pipe might be loose and needs to be re-secured properly (with a new application of thermal compound) -
Oh boy, the fan is not working as it should then. Do you hear it running?
So you`ve cleaned the dust...
Have you raised it a bit? -
Here the spec for Intel core 2 t7600.
http://processorfinder.intel.com/Details.aspx?sSpec=SL9SJ
Desktop Processor E6550
http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLA9X
Hay Gophn I would agree with Desktop cpus Which are rated at 72c. as Max So so the safe zone would be 55 to 60c as the safe zone for desktops. Laptops it is safe is in 85c.
Both CPU are core 2 2.33ghz with 4mb cache.
Now jl1989 Mybe you should call alienware for thermal paste or a heatsink fan replacement. Becuse 94c is on the edge of the cpu shutting down -
probably.. i guessi should while warranty holds.. i can hear the fans going....
the only thing making m y laptop hot is the gpu.. cpu temps arent too bad, and im on a SSD. -
6 more degrees and you can use the CPU core to boil water. That cant be good. Thermal design was 100-110c at the very most
Are you 1000% sure the heatsink is seated properly and theres definately no gap inbetween the two? -
^^ exactly what I asked.
-
what do you use to check your temporature of your cpu gpu and others stuff in side your computer?
-
For CPU:
- Notebook Hardware Control
- RMclock
For GPU:
- RivaTuner is best (since it does in-game temp monitoring display)
- nTune
- ATItool
For all-in-one:
- HWmonitor -
Watch out for HWmonitor. I had an issue with V1.07 and V1.08 reporting 20C higher core temp. GPU temp is always the same as it's read from the GPU drivers with nVidia cards.
-
Hwmonitor, coretemp, speedfan. theres lots. Read the first post
-
Currently I'm using HWMonitor V1.09 and it seems to read correctly. I set the CPU to throttle at a lower temp in the bios and monitored the temps with software. When it started to downclock I had the same temp as I had set in the bios-probably the most accurate way to check if the software is working properly.
-
I tend to run more then one application. Like a combanation of speedfan and Core temp. Which give -+ 1 to 2 c off. It seems like they have it fix. So they run the same temp.
-
So HWMonitor reports it the same, and I trust it.
94 degres C safe for m5550?
