9800 GT outperforms 8800 GTX

Despite how much much people like to reassure themselves that the newest and most cutting edge advance really doest warrant an upgrade, i cannot go without informing u guys of this. Yes, it is a marginal diffrence, but that means it is a BETTER card! HA!

9800 GT = 8800 GTX
8800GTX = 9800GT

in other words same card.

 

link works. it only shows you that there is a 300 point difference between the cards in 3dmark 06.

The specs of the cards are exactly the same. The 9800 is just a rebranded 8800.

 

The 9800M GT is a re-branded 8800M GTX.

And umm they have the exact same stats(for th4e actual chip stats), which further proves they are the same cards. If you individually click their links, you'll see that even notebook check classifies them as the same core(g92) and same amount of shaders, core clock, bus interface etc.

Remember, these "tests" were performed on a few different notebooks so other components probably came into play. Not to mention there are the drivers to take into account and all.

Sometimes, even the same GPU will score noticeably different on 3dmark.

 

Heh, ok... We all know Notebookcheck isnt the most reliable source... And they don't state what most specs of all the computers they test are. But yeah, agree with all of the other people here, they are the same card. I even remember reading a thread where some dude ordered 9800GT's and found a sticker on it that said 8800GTX.

 

Notebook check = garbage.

For example it said a 3dmark06 result of 7950GTX SLi was 4500. So you still haven't told us so

Also: These scores DO NOT take into account the processor, ram, hard drive, etc which can EASILY account for the differences. In other words you haven't proven anything, sorry man.

okay once again. i have had BOTH cards in hand at the same time BOTH cards were actually labeled 8800gtx and both are the same part number on the white sticker on the card itself. this was from sager but im sure this was across the board.. i took the 9800gt out and pulled off the copper casing and there was actually a 8800gtx sticker right on the 9800gt circuit board they are the same exact cards.. the 300 point difference could be from a lot of other reasons

 

The difference might be a driver difference if Nvidia released different drivers for both GPUs. Or it might simply be a difference in the GPu themselves. There have been cases in the past where identical GPus with the same drivers have had a noticeable difference in 3dmark06 scores(~200-300).

 

why yes it does. typical nvidia for ya..

when the 9800gt first came out i reported the exact same thing and i was shouted down on here for spreading rubbish rumours.

ive waited a long time for this and think today is the best day to say it.......
