First off let me say I'm not really that much of a gamer but I just like a good quality built laptop and the M15x seems to fit the ticket for me.

CPU choices: Is there that much of an advantage over the 720QM 6MB Cache then the 820QM since I'm not a gamer like most of you are? Would it be overkill for me to go with the 820QM 8MB Cache?

Memory: Default order is 3GB DDR3 at 1066MHz. I use the word overkill again LOL for me to go with the 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz? Will I really see any difference between the 2 choices?

OS: Does the M15x come with Microsoft clean install DVD's or is it a ram and cram install DVD with bloatware? I want to with Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate, 64bit.

Vido card:I will be going with the 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M and the 15.6-inch WideFHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED screen.

    Optical Drive: I want the Blu-ray burner but I'm only seeing that it's a BR-R and not BR-RW. Am I correct ?

Will I really need a cooling pad for the M15x and if what do you other M15x owners recommend?

Feel free all to offer any advice before I order.

    Thanks
    Randy

hi if you not a gamer" like you say you don't need 4gb ram but if you do some kind of video editing or programing you need it , now for the processor the 720 is good for what you pay but then again you don't play games ? you can get one of those eeepc with intel atom :D

    Hi.

From what i've read around the forums the concensus is:

    1. The 820qm seem not to be worth the money that it costs for the 166mhz difference

    2. They say that 1333 memory is only marginally faster in real world

    3. On the discs I believe you get a clean install dvd with only windows and another with the drivers etc..

    4. Ive also read that the cooling on this notebook is very good so you wouldn neet a cooler

I do have to ask, if you're not a gamer, then why Alienware?

To answer your questions, no the 820 is not a significant difference, if you'll pay that much more then just go for the 920. 4GB of RAM will make a difference if you run any RAM intensive programs.

Doesn't get much simpler. Open it up, take old hard drive out, put new one in, close it, switch on.

Thanks everyone for the replies. :D

Not being rude, I don't buy junk so that's why I want the Alienware and besides it runs cooler from the reviews I have read about the M15x then other laptops with the same configuration. Another reason for the Alienware, they are just one cool looking laptop. ;)

I will be doing some video editing but nothing major.

Only other real major issue is support. I have read good and bad about Alienware support. Only time I would be calling them would be for a warranty issue such as a hardware failure or breakage.
