    What are the temps of your GPU while using an external monitor?

    when not using an external my idle temps are 48-55c .... But when connected my idle temps linger in the 70-80c range. according to GPU-z my core clock is at a steady "500Mhz". Without the Ext monitor the Gpu uses a "balanced" style clock setting.... only raising the clock when demanded.

    ive messed around with power settings and noticed that GPU settings has a "balanced" and a "maximum" setting. no matter what setting i choose the Gpu acts balanced only. It doesnt make sense to me.... but in the end i prefer a balanced gpu because it keeps my temps nice and low, but as soon as i hook up an external... clock/memory max out ...regardless on what power setting i choose. Im pretty sure the GPU doesnt need to max out just to run an external monitor because putting the computer in stealth mode fixes the issue running a clock at 250mhz.... i wouldnt mind doing this as a workaround but a cpu clock at 800mhz is no bueno.

    anyway are you guys experiencing the same?, if not ...what driver are you using? im currently using 180.48

    thank you

    I've looked into this matter myself;

    If using an external monitor, "PowerMizer" does not "clock down". IE - always at full speed. For whatever reason - I don't know.

    MY way around this is using RivaTuner or ATITool, when not playing any games, make a profile with "low" Mhz, when using games, either change profile to high Mhz or simply launch the game with the applications.

    This annoys me too actually. I wonder why it has to clock so high when outputting to an external monitor.

    I Downloaded Ntune. It seemed promising, it downloaded as a plugin straight into my Nvidia control panel. It added a new tree drop down menu with gpu settings. It allows me to under/over clock the with sliders. It worked great when i adjusted the slider to read 200 as opposed to 500. But once i did that..i couldnt put it back up, the slider only stuck when i moved it down. Even the check box that said "factory clock settings" wouldnt stick, it kept jumping back to the "custom clock settings" box. Its possible this is due to the modded driver im using. When i get home today im going to install the Stock drivers from Nvidias site, and see if Ntune will work then. Is sucks if it works because i'll lose the "power on demand" balance feature the modded driver gave me. Oh well
