started out with the basic config
q9000
gtx 260's
4 gigs of ram....
I started to notice alot of weird issues...the wireless was not connecting at all then all of a sudden it would....PER moo maybe its my card < you were right brotha....so i started to talk to alienware tech support ...first the tech tells me it my ram i dont have enough ...so i ordered 8 gigs of ram >>.1000.00 bucks later i have 8 gigs and no differance...not cool...so i called them back then the tech assummed that its my screen due to the antenna for the wifi card runns up the back side of the screen ...which explains the post a while with it making a slight humming noise by the camera area....so then i call them again super pissed by now...and the tech says lets replace your card and the screen and the touch pad that dosent work at all..then tells me this maybe its your video cards also...so..i bought 2 new gtx 280's and had them rushed to me before all of the other parts came here...upgrade time ...1500.00 later they are here....so the tech shows up at my house ...very nice guy super by the book ..ect...he started at 5 oclock...at 11:30 he left my house installed everything done...he told me not to turn it on for a hour or so to let everything seat a little bit...
so after that i said crap that just did not sound right...i turned it on in the morning and to my suprise the video cards where humming very bad...the screen flickering horrible and he installed the wifi card wrong...omg...you have to be kidding me.....
i called alienware telling them to **** off i was so mad...and they got me to a high level rep and he is now replacing my system with everything they have to the max...ram cpu gpu ....every thing to a tee...but what a night mare......
so is there anyone else having such crappy issues ?
oh and by the way i have 2 new screens that they sent me to replace the crappy one and they told me to just keep them...and i have now 2 260 gtx cards and 2 gtx 280 cards and a wifi card.....wow and no computer yet sucks
but the reps seem to actually really care alot for the customer and i think they will make this right

I think they realized how badly you got taken with the extra purchases (RAM, GPUs) and realized they better fix it to your satisfaction or they would be 'up the creek without a paddle'.
Only issue I have noticed is that when running on battery power (yes, Save Power mode is active) there is a slight electrical whine coming from the area of the left GPU. It's annoying in a quiet room, but I can live with it. The XPS M1710 had a similar issue so I'm used to it.
Glad they resolved your problem and you have a new system in the works. I know they told you to keep the parts but you might want to verify that. Replacement Parts dispatched out for a service call are to be returned within 10 days or they will bill you. I had a similar issue with a 7950 GTX card and next thing I know my CC had been charged. Charge reversed with a phone call and part sent back with a nasty note. -

good looking out for sure ...but the rep said i paid for them ...so what the hell.....i just cant believe this sucker has cost me 6 grand so far ..and i hate the fact of that alone...and they will have it too me in 8 days also..so we will see i am kinda worried not to open it up....ha

fyi they also said the ONLY card that they use for the wireless is the broadcom card...i wonder why everyone thinks that they have the intel 5300......
-
Did they re-emburse your unneccessary gpu and ram purchases?
sounds to me like they got extra coin out of you. -
Yep - its a Dell Wireless 1510 card. Not an Intel 5300.
Its too bad they didn't opt for a better wi-fi card. Oh well. -
benthedogtrainer Notebook Evangelist
they did not reinburse me anything at all....sucks really bad....
they said you can request the intel if you want to.....
so the dell is the same as the broadcom....or what -
Wow... you actually could help people with the 2 260m cards (if there working off course), people like Moo whom are having just one card are willing to buy them from you, I guess.
I would buy your 280m cards if I had the money and install them myself, I'm (as far as I can hear from our story) better in computers as the Dell technician! -

Ah, what the hell. I'll take a 260m too since everyone wants one.
-
I'll buy all 4 GPU's!! I will mod them and use 4-way SLI!! Muahahaha

-
Me too please!!
-
me third!!!
-
When i got the Second card for my machine it came with the SLI cable attached along with the heatsink . i requested just the cable though but was sent that whole package so im not sure what it would take to get those specific parts.
-
And who did you contact for the sli cable?
-
Tech support, but it wasnt a matter of ordering the part it was trouble shooting on the phone for 3+ hours and then finally nailing it down to the SLI cable which in turn it was not and was the second GPU lol . So in the end i was happy they sent it the way they did . The SLI cable sits underneath the secondary heatsink unlike the primary card where the attachment is out in the open .

I give you 800 for the 280's if you post it on ebay with buy it now I use paypal
-
-
Ur crazy then .... 800& for 10%?,.....
-
Just keep the 260s witcher and save the money for the next card upgrade like the ATI cards that will be coming . That should prove to be a very worthwhile upgrade.
-
Do you have any idea when those cards are gonna be released? You're talking about the 4870's crossfire right?
-
Your guess would be as good as mine but if the newest bios is any indication then it cant be that far off at all.

its alot more then 800.0 my friend dell charges 1500...for the 280's they charge like 900 for the card with the cable and then 600 for the other
got the receipt -
Good luck selling those cards for that.
I doubt anyone would pay that price and I am surprised you did. lol -

nope there mine ...they came with my system oem....then i bought the 280 for 1500 more...so they are mine ...confirmed this morning
-
I think he meant that you might want to return them to Dell due to the amount of money you'll be losing trying to sell them around here...
-
Thats exactly what I would do.. Try to get dell to refund the price of them... Cant hurt to try that route.. I agree if they do this, you would get more money from them then trying to sell them here ... Well unless you are extremely lucky and get someone willing to pay the prices you are asking. -
benthedogtrainer Notebook Evangelist
ooooohhh....ok my bad.....sounds like my wife she was a little pissed off but oh well...lets u know ur alive....lol....\
no biggie...not really worried about it....its hard because everyone wants them now and i am like damn who to choose...sucks -
Everyone wanted them BEFORE you threw up that price you paid. lol
I don't think many of us want them anymore.
You got 260's as well, right? -
-
$1500.00 for 2 cards ?? yikes!!
As for the SLI connector the one card has the connector exposed but the other card has it under neath the heatsink. This is the 280s im talking about but i doubt the 260s would be any different.
Id send back those 280s though in a second unless you just have money to burn because that is just ridiculous price to pay . -
benthedogtrainer Notebook Evangelist
when i called to check the value...for both including the cable ect everything heatsink bla bla ....it was 900...
so i think i would be cool with 700 for both ....is that fair ? -
Hmmm
So the cards are different then, quad? Meaning that you need a primary and secondary gpu?
I didn't notice that with my 260's...
ALIENWARE is stepping up to the plate finally......
