I ordered my M17 last Wednesday. I called customer service today and some guy told me it was in phase 3 and would hit phase 4 this afternoon. I asked him about the videocards and backlit keyboards on backorder.
HE COMPLETELY DENIED IT! he said my computer had all its parts gathered and it was expected to ship December 9th.

    So... I called ROSWELL
Roswell said my order had not even been payed for. I was still waiting on payment to be approved. And Roswell also confirmed the backorder for the 3870s and backlit keyboard.

Im a little disapointed Im going to have to wait for my laptop,
but 1800-ALIENWARE is full of bologna... only trust ROSWELL

I still love ALIENWARE, but come on...

I was told i'd get my computer on 11th November 2008

it's now 2nd of December some how i don't think i am going to see my computer till next year.

They told me they'll email me on a daily basis on the progress but i had to write to them every time to find out what the hell is going on with my computer.

    You mean since May 2008?

It's always a long wait when they got $8500 of my money :)

I am playing Russian Roulette here.

So we have, Video Cards on backorder, Backlit Keyboard issues, and a lack of communication between customer service employees at Alienware as to the status of the nation in relation to the M17.

Wow what a personal relations nightmare for Alienware, would hate to be on that ship at the moment… surprised they are not offering one of their other laptops at a slightly more discount if you change your order rather than having customers just jump ship from Alienware altogether?

In these challenging economic times everyone is dealing with I cannot see why every potential buying customer would be vital.

Will also call on the status of mine when I get off work, then make a decision on what to do?

Still keeping my head up and hopeful...

I'm going to just wait it out. I was planning on going for xotic and picking up a whitebook, but decided that jumping ship just wasn't worth it at this point just to gain my rig a couple days earlier. I think if I did it over again I most likely would have gone with the whitebook from the start. It's all the same anyways.

Its not just receiving a notebook faster that you should worry about, it's the lack of support you will continue to receive from alienware that should have you worried. They can't even get ship times right and when they really screw up you will be the last person they will ever tell, leaving you in the dark. I know from a personal experience, when I sent in my old m9750 for rma they lost it.
