Im running linux (more specifically backtrack 5) and I can't seem to get the driver working for my 7970m. After installing it, I reboot and when I try running AMD Catalyst Control Center, I get message saying "There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux Edition. It could be caused by the following. No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig"

I have tried the latest drivers for lunix on the AMD website. I figure I would post here first as most people with a 7970m GPU would be on this site

    Any suggestions? :p

What computer system? If you have switchable graphics it can be challenging to get the discreet graphics working correctly with Linux. If you can, try setting the graphic card selection manually in the BIOS so the IGP is not detected. That may help.

Any luck buddy? I am having the same issue using backtrack 5 R3 and I also tried BackBox Linux. I have posted on all the forums including Ubuntu and Backtrack which are really no help at all.

As it stands I am unable to get the display drivers properly setup. Have you made and progress?

Edit: I also tried a modified BIOS A03 and disabled the onboard IGP graphics. Still nothing, the same failure messages. No compatible adapters detected.

I have the same problem with my HD6990M in Linux (OpenSuse, Lubuntu, ... ). I also tried installing the driver from the AMD website directly (instead of installing it through the repository) , and that bricked my Linux installation (I couldn't boot anymore).
Since then I'm only running my IGP in Linux.
