Hi all,
First of my system specs;
Wins 7 Professional 64bit - Intel i7 Q720 - Dual ATI HD4870 Crossfire
I'm at my wits end. I cannot get the new 10-4_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu to install on my Alienware-M17X R2 not matter what I try. I have removed all previous versions of the catalyst control centre (using Revo) and the drivers from the Device Manager.
Once I click on the 10-4_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu file the following happens
1 - it extracts ok
2 - theapplication opens and aks me to select my language - english
3 - I get two options;
Install
Uninstall
When I click on either option it just stops working and nothing happens. I have searched the internet and tried the following
1 - open Device Manager and Uninstall both drivers
2 - reboot
3 - go back into Device Manager and try to manually update the drivers by pointing to the following location C:\ATI\Support\10-4_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu
4 - I get popup telling me the latest drivers are installed
Does anyone anywhere know how to fix this?
pretty please with sugar on top

Download the Mobility drivers from here and try again.

I will let you know how I get on.

I just installed the Mobility Drivers in your link and I get the following?

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Those are an old set, probably the ones that came with the computer, but I'm not sure where you are reading that from or what, if anything, you've done with the file you just downloaded. Catch me up, and we'll go from there.
Edit: I think I understand. -
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver
and when I installed I always get the above image? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Never seen that before. Run the downloader again by right clicking on it and selecting "Run as Administrator."
-
after I hit install nothing happens? Weird -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
That is weird.
Go to folder c:\ATI Technologies\support\10-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ ccc and run Setup.exe (run as adm'r). Will launch Install Mgr. again. Try Uninstall and get rid of everything it allows. It may be that nothing happens again, which is OK. We'll just proceed by a different route, but we need an orderly process. -
how does 10.4 work for everyone, i tried it when it was released but didn't like it.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Working fine. Sometimes hard to install.
Edit. Seems a bit slower than 10.3, but smoother. -
yeah i tried benching with them and got lower scores. and lower fps in bfbc2. maybe i will gave it another go after a few more benching rounds.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You been kicking @ss with the benchs,
-
thanks, yeah still want to break that 10k mark though, man so close.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
You'll get it. I'm more impressed with 06 scores and the total Vantage marks. Remarkable results for a single card. My card isn't up to the heavy lifting.

I'm afraid I lost my partner.
-
Should I remove all ATI related applications (CCC) and drivers and start again? -
revelator if you check my temps you will see it was under heavy cooling, maybe thats why i can get the clocks that high.
to the op have you tried to install it manually through control panel? -
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Let's go another way and come back to this issue.
Let's go to Device Mgr (Control Panel>Hardware, etc>Device Manager. Select Display Adapter, select 4870, right click, then Properties, select Driver tab, Uninstall, in the popup window check Delete software, etc. It should remove the driver, reboot and hopefully you come back up with a VGA driver. If instead it boots up with another ATI driver, repeat the process. You need to clear out all of the older drivers to have a clean slate to install with. When the VGA driver loads, let me know (It is ugly. LOL)
Edit: that's what we're about to next. -
yes once you cleared out the old drivers, extract your new driver somewhere you can find it easily. then go back to control panel and select to manual find the driver. hopefully it will install that way.

Driver Packaging Version 8.723-100406a-098776C-ATI

OpenGL Version 6.14.10.9756
Catalyst Control Center Version 2009.1211.1547.28237
please tell me these are the latest drivers? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Yessir. That's it. Congratulations.
You still have the older version of CCC, but it doesn't matter. That's a job for another day. -
Now two more questions if I may
How can I be sure my cards are in Xfire? - edit Found the Crossfire tab in CCC - lol
Do you have any idea why this machine will not switch on unless its plugged into the mains? i.e. it wont run off the battery half the time.
lol -

Re Crossfire:
Right-click ATI tray icon> ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 > CrossFireX Settings > Show CrossFireX Status Icon. Make sure a check mark is there. Then launch a fullscreen game and see the icon to verify Crossfire is working.
You'll see an ATI Crossfire Icon in the top right hand corner.
Re battery: Sorry, I have no idea. -
sweet to see it worked for you.
so your laptop won't turn on in battery mode???? -
I had trouble installing 10.3 so did some others but no issues with 10.4. Installations just get corrupted and bad install/uninstalls occur it seems.
glad you got it fixed though. -
yeah these ati drivers are a pain compared to nvidia drivers, but oh well
-
-
what i helped too,hahhahah j/k
-
I have a old laptop which is using ATI 2600 as display card.
I download the 10.4 driver from above link, but when I install the driver, it says my display card not compatible and refuse to continue.
What can I do now? -
does your laptop have switchable graphics??? if yes then this driver is not supported.
-
Yeah i had to go through Device Manager to get my Display Driver working as in the CIM it only came up with itself and nothing else no CCC and no Display Driver.
-
I'm trying to do it again under 32bit Win7 later.
ATI 10.4 will not install no matter what :(
