New AMD Catalyst 10.6 Drivers Improve Video Playback, Gaming Performance - HotHardware
now we need someone to test on their 5870's
-
Yep, it's going to be great news if it works...
-
hum how great nothing for the 4xxx serie LOL i guess this to is about to be moved to legacy hardware XD
-
Oh can't wait
-
what surprised me is that they were able to adress coil noise ( of that's what mosquito noise is to them) with just a driver update. -
new driver out:
ATI Catalyst 10.6 Windows 7 | Vista (64-bit) -
-
Installed no problem.
-
awesome, I'm glad we won't have to rely on dell drivers.
-
Can you run some benchmark and games to see if you have BSOD.
-
didnt install for me just the catalyst
-
-
No go for me...
-
Putting up scores in a sec. Nothing special it seems...with Vantage at least.
-
-
i7 5870cf no install and now only 7fps on vantage on first run so i cancelled vantage and will try to uninstall and try again. well it goes through the motion but no driver install just whipes through and say finished.
-
I saved my scores but now the file won't open? I'll try to fix it, but until then i'll just say gpu score was under 12k
It must just be me
As a side note, it ran surprisingly cool.
LCD Overdrive works now
Edit Again: A-ha! Wrong powerplay. Rerunning Vantage again now -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Well it's good to see you were able to actually install them.
-
Yeah install and no BSOD is great news. I suspect the others have issues due to registry conflicts...
They need to install the drivers manually. -
Nothing special, but it works

I am so pissed off with AMD and Dell right now. The first level tech 1 at AMD was not even aware that AMD had Catalyst mobility drivers for laptops. He was quite suprised as he thought they just provided links back to the laptop manufacturers site. After I finished educating him on something he clearly should know, I spoke with a level 2 tech over at AMD and he wouldn't give me a shred of information on the Catalyst Mobility 10.6 driver and compatibility. "Maybe it will maybe it won't was all I was told, we have no idea whether it will work with your hardware". Asked to talk to a level 3 tech and was told they don't go any higher than level 2. Than I took a different tactic and asked okay which brands of laptop are these drivers designed for? Again no clear answer.
Have lost a lot of respect for both Dell and AMD. The whole thing seems like a massive, PR compaign wrapped in vapourware to sell hardware. The only thing he said was it depends on your hardware configuration and that it would work for some and not work for others. If other people on this site get it to work I will probably back up my system and give it a try. I think the mobility catalyst is nothing more than a come on to help sell their hardware. As far as I can see neither Dell nor AMD are offering straight answers just headgames.
Can anyone provide detailed installation instructions on how they managed to get it to work? Thanks -

-
Wait what? How? It said it installed and everything...grrr brb
-
I'm going to try it. Maybe it'll fix my GPU crashing issue, but I doubt it.
-
-
Anyone confirm that it's working on the 5870s yet?
-
It isn't being recognized now
when i right click my desktop the option doesn;t come up, and searching My Computer yields nothing either
-
thought this was happening,
-
Does not recognize my 5870.
Didn't Joker mention something about AMD fixing this with the 10.6 release?
bummer.
Rolled back to the stock drivers. -
GPU-Z crashes everytime now as well...
-
After you uninstalled the 10.6 drivers, did you run CCleaner and Driver Sweeper before installing the stock drivers?
-
Installed ATI Mobility Catalyst 10.6 just fine on my ATI Moblity Radeon HD 5650. GPU-Z doesn't crash on me either.
-
what driver does it say you're using?
Wait do you even have 5870's? -
Installed fine for me, I have the 5850.
-
AMD will definitely fix this, it may not have made it into this release. Has anyone else that's experienced with driver installs tried installing it yet? Mandrake? I'm in Atlanta right now so I don't have the M17x accessible for testing. -
-
I guess that means we need to wait for 10.7 before they work on the 5870
-
-
-
messed my system up trying to install that, vantage = 7fps now gpuz =bsod rrrrr
