Ok..not sure if anyone has run across this yet. Here's the 9.3 Mobility Package from ATI which includes the 3870s.. This is for 64-bit Win7: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

I modded the .inf to hopefully allow this to install on Vista 64bit instead of Win7. Could someone please be kind enough to do 2 things?

1.) Make sure the Win7 package downloads, and installs on Win7 64bit with no issues.

2.) Replace the .inf with my modded .inf and install on Vista 64bit.
    Download here: http://ewrecked.darksmileysystems.com/C7_78079.zip

Extract it and replace the .inf here:
    C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9-3_beta_win7_64_dd_CC\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF\

Then run the setup on Vista64 and it should install fine..

Feedback please? If this works as I expect it to, then I'll do 32bit also.

Uninstalled everything, safe mode, driver cleaner, same ole same ole. Copied your ATI folder to root. Ran set up, went through the install but got the yellow question mark. Rebooted, Vista didn't see the drivers. Copied your inf, went through device manager, installed the inf. All is well. Have yet to 3Dmark it yet, but I will when I get done defragging.

Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't this install the ATI Drivers too?

Everytime I run setup, it won't show the option to install the ATI Drivers.

I must sound like a noob right now... Mr.Moo your assistance is needed...

Mob Modding on Vista right now.

It gave me the option to install everything, but the only thing it didn't install was the driver. It gave me the yellow question mark. So I used his 9.3 inf and copied and overwrote the existing one, and installed through device manager just fine. No modding needed.

    Thanks :)

Hey, to clarify.. No mobmod- These are ATIs first mobility package in a long time! Granted it is a beta.. Anyhow, the download is meant for Win7 and the modded inf should allow for install only on Vista. These are Win7 drivers though. Looks like you need to install the Drivers with the have disk method on Vista, pointing to the modded inf to work properly. Can someone verify that works and post a screenshot of the Driver Details from Dev Mgr? It should be published as provider "E-wrecked Bored Mod v3.1". Anyhow, hope some find these useful.

Strange. I'm showing v3. Ya, check the inf that comes with this. It's showing v3 in notepad.

EDIT: Hold that thought. I was using your old 9.3 INF. And if you try to install the INF (stock) that comes with the package you get an invalid data error. Installing your newest INF now.

EDIT 2: Your newest INF gives me the invalid data error too. Doing a totally clean run. Will keep you posted.

EDIT 3: Okay, here's the low down. Did a full uninstall and clean with Driver Cleaner in safe mode. You know the drill. Got them back to standard VGA. Copied your ATI folder to root. Copied your INF in. Ran set up. Everything shows up. It installs everything except the driver itself. Get the yellow question mark. Asks to reboot. Reboot. Cards not detected. Install your INF through Device Manager. "Data is invalid".

On a whim I installed the X2 version that showed up. No data is invalid error. Reboot. Guess what? It works just fine. So until you get the single 3870 driver ironed out, I'm running the 3870X2 version, though it shows two 3870X2 in device manager. Shows "9.3 Beta" in CCC. Shows "v3.1" in device manager properties. Just to clarify, this is on the 3870X2 version of the driver, not your single one. That one gives me the data is invalid error. Gonna 3DMark it just for fun.

And that is where I'm stuck.

Sorry for the stupid question but:

will this be >, < or = performing/stable than modding standard 9.3 for Vista?

BTW, Tks E for the endless effort!

PS: this will work on 4850 too, right?

E, 14 point bump in 3DMark with the X2's. 12394. But something is definitely wrong with the single 3870 version.

Hmm. I'll review the inf tonight. I just threw it together hastily. Really, I didn't change much other than OS compatability. I've got an idea, and I'll try something with a twist this evening. Performance wise, not sure of any gains. It's just a refreshed 9.3 mobility package from the looks of it. Anyhow, I'll keep ya updated if you do the same for me. And yes, 4-series are supported.

    Hi all

This Mobility 9.3 driver is great performance wise, but it still doesn't scale under W7... Still have to play in letterbox.

Am I doing something wrong? What causes scaling issue? Same drivers that work fine under Vista don't scale in W7. Is this issue OS related?

    Cheers

    Luke

If im not mistaken the inf that the setup uses its different (you will notice there are 2 infs in the folder). My guess is that the win7 inf is missing something that the vista one has that causes the scaling problem :p

    Thanks CooL

EDIT: I have just found a remark, in Mobility 9.4 release notes, under known W7 issues, saying that 'some resolutions under certain configurations may not scale properly'. Hopefully they will fix it in 9.5 :)

    Cheers

Nope. Followed directions to the tee. Only CCC and Manager show up in install. Installed those. Copy and pasted INF. Ran setup. Still didn't see driver. Went through device manager. Only sees X2 version. When I force it to use 3870 version it comes back with a "cannot find the file specified error".

EDIT: Okay, I got them to work. First I was a retard and didn't realize I had downloaded the 9.4's. I dug up some 9.3's. Followed your instructions, but they still wouldn't show up with the installer. So I had to go through device manager. Device Manager only showed the X2's, so I had to force it to use the 3870. I had to do that on both cards. The first card takes the 3870, but second one would not no matter what I did and kept installing the X2. So now the Device Manager is showing the master at 3870, and the slave at 3870X2. CCC shows just X2 as well, even though only the second card is running it.
