wow! M19X that sound great, hmmm plenty room for a perfect cooling system
LOL.

There is no reason why Alienware wouldnt make an M13x. There is a growing demand for 13 inch notebooks since netbooks were launched, and with the m11x internals, the m13x could be thinner, have better battery life, and probably upgraded specs due to the better thermal management and lower powered cpu's from sandybridge. They could even throw in a proper i3/i5 to be honest.
For anyone saying that AW will never make a 13inch laptops, your vision is pretty narrow. Shareholders want a good return, and they want AW to keep releasing new and innovative products. The m11x was a 2010 product, simply revising each of its 3 notebook models probably isnt enough, they need to bring something new to the table.
Lets look at apple, they now have 11inch, 13 inch, 15 inch, and 17inch notebooks, as do every other manufacturer on the planet these days. Would it really be that unbelievably for AW to release a 13inch laptop in the near future? Not really, especially considering that the m11x's main critisism is that its just too close to the netbook category in terms of size.
My theory, at some point in 2011 AW will introduce a 13 inch notebook, because it makes good business sense. If you dont believe that, then your looking at this from the wrong angle. A good business should never sell purely what it wants or likes, it should be selling what consumers want. Like i said, there's a big demand for 13/14 inch notebooks, and the m15x is just too big! -
If they release a 13 incher though, my m11x is going straight on ebay!
-
I think some people are ignoring the huge potential market for an M13x. There's a lot of us that passed up the M11x because of it's size and would instantly snap up an M13x that features a decent screen and bigger keyboard. It might even be so popular that M11x sales would be cannibalized.
-
That review is very old. John was talking about actual retail chips that overclockers got their hands on and found limits with them. I'll PM him and ask him to post here. -
hey joker...you guys can start here...scroll down near the bottom and read a bit. from the people who "actually" know something about sandy bridge.
HWBOT News -
If Dellienware introduces an M13x with properly designed hinges, get's rid of the yes-I-can-shave-using-this-craptastic-plastic-screen covering the display and does it in about the same footprint as the M11x then I'll be kicking my 11x to the curb.
-
^ i second that !!! a M13x would be the best ! and i could also do without the plastic screen
-
So much for unlocked SB chips.
I'll go out on a limb and guess the unlocked mobile chips will have similar limitations.
-
Been a while since I've been on HWBot, but that stinks. I'll be sticking with my 920XM/940XM. Maybe we'll find a way to get to the voltage on these. In any case, that takes out the fun and appeal to me. That makes me much less interested in the R3. Not that I need the power, the R2 I have has plenty of that. Will be interesting to see the chips once launched. Any idea on wether or not an extreme version might be released, and if so, what would "extreme" entail is the question.
-
A i7-2920XM has been on the roadmap for awhile now. 2.5Ghz stock. 3.5Ghz Turbo. 8MB Cache. DDR3-1600. 55W TDP which includes the IGP.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...et-arrandale-sb-huron-river-platform-way.html
There's nothing yet to suggest that "Extreme" CPU features have changed on SB mobiles...which is to say they still won't share the same levels of unlocked BIOS overclocking that desktop CPUs take for granted. -
Interesting, I'll have to give it more attention tommorrow when I have the day off and home alone lol. Thanks. +1
-
If SB extreme is going to be #1 on the mobile platform, it's essential for someone like Kevin to build a new TS version around it (if that's even possible). I wonder how many of us would be willing to pay $10-$15 towards that effort? I know I would. If he can get TS working, then TS + SB with it's reduced power consumption would be a pretty nice fit.
-
I would too, because eventually (i'd like to think) I'll get one. Not anytime soon, and hopefully though warranty, so count me in on it.
-
I'll pay the $15 to make this work. SB is a nice evolution if it can have TS working, this would be awesome.
-
that may well be the case...along with now... your cpu will have lojack that you can't disable.(speculation of course) and with that being said....this new breed of es chips that will hit the market...just might land you a fine or worse. since they can track the chip..(more speculations as to how this new tech will pan out)
so be prepared to pay RETAIL price for an extreme edition cpu...1000+ hahaha (more speculations of curse) -
If you're talking about vPro and Intel's Anti-Theft tech they're both already present and available on most Arrandale chipsets. It's not something new that comes with Sandy Bridge only.
The features allow a company's (or school's) IT department to remotely disable a laptop when it's reported stolen or hasn't connected to the main server in a set time period. Though Intel theoretically might be able to use the feature to track down ES CPUs they're typically not the ones in control of the tracking.
So as long as you're not swapping out the CPU in a company/school-owned notebook you're using for an ES/QS CPU you should be good. -
i was half azz joking about the cpu tracking stuff. (ergo all the speculating and laughing) they are not tracking the cpu they are tracking the notebook itself..
and it's absolute software that does the tracking/erasing/disabling and recovering of notebooks. which is embedded on the bios chip (or now..on it's own chip - more speculations). which cant be reflashed with an older version not having the software.
what im more interested in is...how do they find the bricked laptop if it's off?
does it turn it's self on and broadcast it's position?
i would sure hate to have my shinny new AW stolen only to find that all i could do was wipe or brick it. im still out 3 grand if they dont find it.
and insurance doesn't cover it getting stolen form starbucks or the beach..lol -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
unless they use some kind of Alienware On Star " or integrated GPS i don't know if that's going to work like you say , they better focus on give us more POWER
@johnksss congrats for your 10,000 posts -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
it only works when the guy is online i think. you can track where it comes online. my brother has this.
-
yes, but once it's bricked. it aint going on line...so that means they strip it for parts or just break it and throw it in the trash. the only part that would be junk at that point is the motherboard.
and since they have internet and can look up answers just like the rest of us..im sure it wont take long for most of them to know why. and there goes your investment.
side note:
modified. lock all sensitive data and call home every time the laptop is turned on. -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
thats why its smart then to not put a password on your pc and just protect your folders with important data. let them go online lol. they wouldnt know it's got lojack unless they where really looking for stealing alienwares.
-
ok moneys an issue for me, i think i might order an 17xR2 for $2200 and save $700 and get that 8GB ram and i7 Q core.
will this be better than the least expensive 17xR3 because i cant afford $3000
THANKS BOSS! -
Jubei Kibagami Notebook Consultant
I am sure the r3 will be better than the r2...well at least in the gpu and cpu department.
-
Will they still offer M17xR2 after CES? Or will it get phased out immediately?
-
Support for laptops runs for around 6 month to 1year with most companies. Its not like they release the laptop right away after CES and say in Feb you have a problem with you laptop and they'll give a M17xR3
they might still have support till maybe even this time next year or even summer 2011 who knows
. A Dell tech came by to fix my Adamo Onyx ( 1st edition not XPS) and he was saying he still goes around and fixes the M1330 mobo's, they still supply parts for a 4+ year old laptop but when it comes to replacement Im guessing thats when they might give you a newer revision, after the 6-12 month period
-
I think he may be referring to sales. They will carry R2 and R3 for awhile.
-
Oh okay
In that case, yeah they will run them for awhile before they phase out R2 and just keep R3
-
Make it without a hinge problem and RGB LED and I will buy one tomorrow
-
^what he said, that would be awesome !
-
Alienware Laptop
without a single problem
that I like to see lol -
My M15x.
-
M13x, M13x, M13x!!
Or an M11x with a bigger screen on it. Just think how good that'll be... -
Ummm then it would no longer be an M11x now would it..LOL
-
It would if they made one like the Kohjinsha DZ Dual Screen Laptop
Alienware can make this if they wanted to
I think there would be 100,000 in pre order if they announced it lol
someone make a poll & see how it goes
-
Very well written, 13" seems to be the sweet spot now for portability and power in the market's tastes. I joked about an M13x displacing the M11x and M15x (though this seems less likely now) and now we might finally get it. Right after I bought an M11x
-
would we get a 460m in the m13x ?
or some thing lower than the 460m -
Not sure about what card we'll get with a m13x. Reckon if alien ware can price it reasonably, they'll kill the market.
-
You haven't looked hard enough - trust me something will turn up
- j/k
-
not long now guys
i will be gutted if its just a m17x ...
turned down some very good offers from dell by haggling on the pphone
Be good if what my friend said is true and there's a total remake of the design on all laptops made out of carbon fibre
-
Someone told me it's an M14x that will be released at CES. We'll see if that comes true. I may buy it if that's the case.
-
Carbon Fiber?! M14x?!
Wat.
Seriously sounds like some wild rumors but at this point I'm foaming at the mouth. I would be perfectly fine if they replaced the metal with carbon fiber, it would actually be reasonably transportable and even more durable. -
14"? Sounds good. I'm in the market for a portable version of my beast. I was so close to getting an M11x but the hinges scared me away.
-
I don't get why you would want a M14x lol
its only an inch diagonal less than the m15x... so like maybe half a centre meter difference width
wow that's gonna make alot of difference.. just my opinion though
-
If it is 2 lb lighter and smaller in dimensions why the hell not -
you could make the m15x smaller by taking away some of the plastic from around the screen and make it slimmer.. yes
But do you really think they are going to make a laptop an inch bigger or smaller than there other models ? it just wouldn't make any sense
Oh heres an m14x but if you want we can give you an extra half cm width if you choose the m15x ... lol
can you see what i mean ? just seems alittle pathetic.. people will be asking for a M11.3x next -
No way its M14x... unless they stop making the m15x.
Make most sense for a M13x. -
Please only a M17xr3, don't make me buy both
.
If they put a GTX460m in a 14inch within 2.5kg/3Kg, I will have to buy this thing... -
There's no way for me to confirm if this is true, all I can say is I received a message from a fairly reliable source that M14x is scheduled for release.
-
Fat fingers....your source meant to type a 5.
