not sure this is in another thread already asked

my question is the alienware nameplates they use when ordering a laptop.
are all of them the same size? dimensions and screw locations? for the m11x m14x m15x m17x?

because i am debating to purchase either a newer m11xr3 or m14 m15 to replace my current m11xr2. because i can sell my current m11x to a co-worker but will a m14x nameplate fit on the m11x?

if i were to order a new laptop and add "his" name on the nameplate, can i just swap out my own m11 plate to the new m14 plate? if thats possible or not? or if it isnt is there a way i can order a new nameplate?

    thanks

What an awesome question to ask. Was wondering the same thing - if I go for the M14x and my kid gets this M11, I want it to have his name. Thanks for the reply Mark

    Hello,

I have a AW m18 on order and I am getting a custom name plate. However lets just say down the line I want to change it, or even get a blank/generic one. Would this be possible?

Please let me know - thank you!

You could always purchase a blank or generic plate if one is available on ebay or another third party site. AW does not sell plates (other than at time of system order) as far as I know.

Same in NZ, can't get a custom name plate. My rep told me that because the M18X is so new they haven't set up that part of the manufacturing yet... sounded very fishy to me since I'm sure they're all made in the same factory, and they're all the same size!?

It's more of a system and supply chain issue versus a tech issue I'm sure.

I'm not sure on about the sales reps, but from the site, if you order from there you can actually write whatever you want on the nameplate. Not sure if it's the best way to buy a new laptop from dell though. Lols.

every rep has a different excuse. the rep i talked to told the nameplate is no longer available including the US, claiming they dont do the engraving anymore. i went to look at the US site, the nameplate option is still available. tbh, that was a lame excuse.

i think im goin to get the standard nameplate and take it to the trophy shop, use some sort of acid to remove the m18x and re-engraved it.

Nice question OP.... I've a nameplate from a M15x I used to own and now it's going directly in the of my new M17xR3 3D.... This thread saved me from a Pre-order dilemma.... ;)

By the way, the custom nmeplate option is only available in the US...as if rest of US don't deserve to be recognised as AW owners..!!! BS !!!

Anyways,I'm glad I bought my M15x from th US and I still have it with me till date...I'm at peace now after reading the comments in this thread..thanks guys..!!!

I was thinking about these custom nameplates and was wondering if I put my name on it, will it decrease the resale value?

IMHO, it won't decrease the resale value, but to some people maybe they won't like your name on a box that they are buying.

Worse case is that you can remove the nameplate and state it doesn't have one. :)

What are the Nameplates like on systems from the outlet store? Anyone know?

Also, are they screwed on, or riveted?

Some are generic, like M17x or something like that. However quote a few are removed.

They are held on by screws.

Hi, I know that alienware nameplates only supports alphanumeric chara but it seems it support other chara like ". - @" ect, it just don't convert them to the "alien language" in the plate, I was wondering if it's the same with special chara like "♥" or japanese chara for exemple. When I enter it on the dell website en click to "update" it display the chara in the screen but I don't know if it works "in real life".
    Someone knows about that?

Speaking of the nameplate special characters, anybody know where to locate the entire Alienware alphabet?
