What exactly is this?
The main reason I am asking is that I cant find any details on the web that give a good answer and my current M15x has all the expansions updated to this last one that just came out.
My internet connection here is pretty horrible and during the update process I think I got partial files and didn't realize it. It seemed to be installing the update but now I am getting a fatal error when I open up the launcher and when I ran the repair tool it says it cannot locate the files needed and that I need to reinstall WoW. Downloading these updates and patches again would take weeks with my wonderful 7kb/s download speed (peaks at 24kb/s sometimes).
Was hoping my new M17X with the preinstall edition won't require a ton of updates again...

anderj235,
The WoW pre installed edition will only go so far regardless. Reason being with CATA coming out soon there's going to be lots of upgrades. Your best bet is to have the install disk of everything up to WOTLK, and when CATA comes out buy that game. It'll have the most up to date patch as of December 7, 2010
But otherwise bro your screwed. -
Yup, I got my m17x with the WoW preinstall edition. Basically its like they run all the install disks for you but all updates that came out after the WotLK still need to be downloaded. It was nice to not have to run the 10? disks thru the system to install it on the m17x out of the box tho.

Another option is go to the Blizzard customer support forum and search for the link to the background downloader.
It is a very small download - only a few megabytes - that contains just the patcher itself. This patcher will then download the entire (patched) game.
With the massive patch that just hit last week, this technique probably doesn't require much more download time and you don't have to worry about installing from discs or pre-installing etc.
Either way though, it is going to take a long time to get the game ready for play with only a 7Kbps pipe. -
Battle.net has the installer you can download that is updated to 4.0 so I am gonna start downloading it now and hopefully get it done before to long.
Gotta love the internet we get here in Afghanistan... 2 more months and back to my 18MB/s, that I pay less for than the I do for the internet here. -
i'm curious, what speeds do you get over there?
also, i'm guessing the pings would be rather horrible especially if it's sat connection? -
I am in the USAF stationed here... paying $75.00 a month for what is suppose to be 250kb/s, but the highest download speed I have seen is 24kb/s all depending on how many people are Skyping. It is SAT connection I believe... I think North Island Research is the name of the provider, know nothing about them and Google turns up nothing.
When I can connect to WoW depending on the time of the day my latency is anywhere from 500ms - 1400ms. Raiding not really an option with the latency and average disconnects.
I am able to do multiplayer SCII ok but I have lost probably 5-10% of my matches due to disconnects or overall lag.
Good news is that another guy here was able to get a complete download and I just copied his entire WoW folder and just kept my W-T-F , Addon, and Screenshot folders. It worked and was actually able to log in to see some of the changes. -
I have installed WoW from their website the past 3 times works really well with FioS takes less then an hour for 13GB download
Screw messing with the CDs
