    Hey,

I noticed downclocking in my 8800gtx, not normal downclocking like before, but downclocking and no upclocking back to it's normal speed. It's stuck at:
    Core clock: 275mhz
    Mem clock: 301mhz

It wont ever go higher. I open far cry 2 and it stays at that, but as soon as I minimize it downclocks back to:
    Core clock: 200mhz
    Mem clock: 100mhz

    How do I fix this?

What are the original AW drivers, I can't find them for XP in the hive. Hmm ... help? :p

I get better and more stable in-game performance with the newer drivers with those clock speeds.

Not too sure about you though.

Could it be gpu-z reading it wrong?

No, it's reading it right. I just meant the overall feel of the game and fps are better with the newer drivers for me. I still get the same clock speeds you are getting, except a tad higher since I have Powermizer disabled.

Still, I find it ridiculous that on my vista partition, games are soo much smoother with newer drivers (especially FC2) than the stock drivers of XP. They should really fix the driver problems we are having :(

That could be a compelling argument for one of the reasons why vista is better than xp. :)

The reason why Vista may be faster because it uses DirectX 10 if games are aware of it. On XP you are stuck with DX9

Sorry, but DX10 if anything is slower. Drivers are most likely not being optimized for XP at this point because the time is spent on Vista. And since Microsoft is claiming that Windows 7 can use the same drivers as Vista when it is released, I don't expect this to change.

Thanks guys, installed the driver and it's running much faster - fps are doubled. I can run far cry 2 at full everything with avg of 20fps at 1440x900 that is frigging amazing! I'm pleased, but I have put it down to Very high, because I prefer higher FPS :)

i have found 1 other set of drivers for xp32 that does the correct clocking driver 167.43

that will at least take your driver out of the 165.x which was abandoned.

you should try it. its about the same on my system. the only way for you to really tell is if you benchmark it on your system with what games you want to play.
