Hello.
I own two AW laptops, the mALX and the M15X. I have run into some problems with them recently and was wondering if anyone else has and if anyone has some advice on how to deal with them.
They are:
(1) The mALX for the most part sits on my desk hooked up to my 22inch Samsung monitor (I use dual screens). Over the past few weeks the Samsung has been flickering allot when I first turn the laptop on. It usually stops after a few seconds. Then in the past few days it gos dark at times, as it did this morning. I played around with the Nvidia program and eventually it was fine. I also checked the connection (it is DVI) and it looks fine on both ends. Could this be a driver problem? Any ideas?
(2) This morning when I went to boot up the m15x it would not turn on, at all, nothing. I checked the battery and it was fully charged. I tried turning it on with the plug in and out and still nada. When it was plugged in the head was lit up but still nothing. So finally I tried something that an AW rep had told me to do for another issue last year, I took out the battery and pushed down hard on the alienhead (turn on buton) for 30 seconds. Then I put the battery back in plugged in the power cord and turned it on and it worked fine. So any ideas on what happened? I use the m15x infrequently for now so it was not turned on for 2 days, if that gives you any clues.
(3) IE7 crashes allot on the m15x. I have multiple tabs open up at the same time when I open IE, could that have something ot do with it?
Thanks for any help you can offer

1. check for updated drivers for sure. not saying it is the solution, but you can at least eliminate it if you upgrade the drivers.
2. heard others with this issue. not with just the m15x, but other makers as well. seems to be just a bug, not to worry. aside from that, i cannot tell you why they do this.
3. i have had minimal issues with ie7. a few crashes, but it did not bother me anyway as i was ready to log off.... -
#1 - Maybe the video card is going bad? Have you stress tested it? Have you hooked the monitor to the M15X to test the monitor?
#2 - Quite possibly a bad CMOS battery.. test it if you can. Also, try this.. remove the CMOS battery and see if you can replicate the power-on issue. Or, possibly your power button is getting tired of being pressed.
#3 - Maybe. When was the last time you cleaned up your hard drive? How long has Windows been installed without a clean install? Maybe ya just got a software glitch, minor virus, or something affecting the OS - or maybe its the CMOS battery..not sure if it would affect Vista.
Just some ideas.. -
1. i thought about the bad card issue, but figured drivers first as a possible. i like the idea of trying the m15x with the monitor...good call.
2. any reason for the CMOS battery to cause the issue? i am just curious as to why you think this...
3. luv the Narcissistic addition to your tag.
4. re-BANN yourself...just not you being un-banned.... -

Thanks for the input. Oh and one more question, where do I find the program to run the camera on the m15x? I know how to enable it but cannot locate any software for it.

The Cyberlink YouCam should be the software for your camera. If you don't already have it in your Program Files (or alternatively, in Start > All Programs), you can find it in your MyHive or here on NBR.

we had about 12 gateway and dell LCD monitors with the same problem. they ended up dying. Cause? either backlight or power issue on the board that controls it. Trying to get a monitor open is like pulling teeth with yarn. The parts were almost as much (once found) as a new monitor, so we scrapped them.

lol ughhh it brokish ?

did you check my post blazer? If its a dell, most come with a 3 year warranty, and so do most samsungs. you might want to check with the MFG. its either the psu of the monitor or more than likely the backlight/flourescent bulb.

Yesterday the Samsung external monitor would not come up, staying black all day until I finally turned it upside down just looking for something. anything. Then it started working! So last night before I went to sleep, I restarted the laptop, with the external monitor working and left it on all night (6 hours). Still working this morning, I restarted the lappy and all is still well. Odd huh?

sounds like a wire is loose?

I have had this monitor since last August, so if it doesn't work in the morning I will box it up and take it back to Best Buy, and ask for a replacement. How do you think that will go over? -
Not too well unless you have extended warranty. Was it a 90 maufacturers then theirs? All they are going to do is have the Geek Brothers look at that then each other and then you and say we have a better monitor for you and sell you that as a replacement. If you bought that monitor at a Costco you would have no problem, they have 1 year solid, not extended contracts or anything. And a lot cheaper that BB.
Sounds like the power button on monitor is broken, when you turned it upside down it must have given the contacts enough time to power up the monitor.
As of now I would keep that monitor unpluged if there is a loose wire in it, it can be a fire hazard. -
i totally agree on the gek squad they can be a real pain in the butt. They are stupid to , and love selling you more stuff
