    Hi!

Last week my M17 arrived! On the first boot i can change the Keyboard lights red and green! Blue never lights up! On second boot green is also broken! Now i got only color red which works correctly! The small connector from the Keyboard to the Systemboard looks ok!

Any ideas to solve the Problem?? Should i ask AW for a new Keyboard?? Or maybe KBC Bios is broken??

    regards

hey guys, i know this thread is a bit old but i got my M17 this year and had the exact same issue with the blue light not appearing just in 1 week.
Do you what the resolution was? The keyboard replacement didn't fix it.
When the new keyboard was put in, the blue light appeared for a split second and vanished.
I've sent my machine to the factory where its sitting for 2 weeks and none one had even looked at it!!

Motherboard replacement?? Will that resolve the issue for good?

    Thanks in advance
    Bharath

the machine is now at the AW factory. Dunno what they'll do. Its ridiculous that even though this seems to be a known issue AW makes customers wait for 2 weeks without even looking at it.

If the issue reoccurs once i get back, that's it. I'll spit fire cos they're not going to make me wait for another few weeks.

Replacement with what though? Another M17 system?

ok.that's good to know that's its not a known issue :). It would be sad if my new M17 would be replaced with probably another refurbished one?
I wouldn't take that either. But fingers crossed, they'll fix the issue for good.

    thanks for the quick reply.

I wonder what happended for the original thread owner's machine. replacement?

I'm glad this thread did get brought up. I was going to give away my old pc to a friend when I got my new notebook from alienware, but now I see you can be without for over a month if something goes wrong. Looks like I'll be holding onto my old comp in case of a situation such as this one. Didn't realize AW took weeks before they even looked at your computer when in need of repair.

Not so sure I agree there, I've seen plenty of them. It's a known board issue and changing the keyboard does nothing. Blue is the worst of the colors on the M17.

Don't get me started on why this doesn't work or they don't really fix it, but as you can see from the OP, it's old news...

oh man! back to square one then??
yes, AW said they're going to take 21 "working days" before the system is supposedly fixed and returned.

I gave out to them today as I'm not waiting for some bored technician sitting in a depot going thru the credit crunch situation and probably the only one working there with a pile of systems to be fixed in a queue to have a look a mine and quickly replace the motherboard and said it was "tested" and fixed.

Its ridiculous that a customer pays so much for a system and has such issues within a week of purchase.

I hope to God that my system doesn't need to go back again to its mothership for a cuddle for a month.

Agreed, I too have only ever heard of these two that have this problem.

We are usually some of the first people to hear of both known as well as unknown problems with A.W. notebooks as many people (including the OP) come here for help at the Alienware forum at NBR.

Come on now, I didnt say hundreds a day!

I did however have my little list of customers who wanted to be notified when we came up with something new for the lights (yeah right!). There were only like 5-6 names on it, but at least I did my part.

As the proverb goes, where there is will there is power. There was never any desire to fix this because $$$$ dictated a lot of the decisions that were put into play, and when Flex huddled with our Product Group about a way out of this problem, doing nothing served them better than having to recall too many systems and making too many waves.

By the way, this forum has become impossible to read recently, due to all the errors and hangups. Are NBR admins doing something about this? This place will be unreachable during E3. Its hard enough to sustain with regular users, Allpowerfull might put this site out of commission for a while.

it was just a saying ....

no body wants to spend money ..... they want us to spend it lol

if you notice the recent discussion bar is gone that what was giving the site alot of issues ....its a little better but the site sometimes goes on the fritz , sucks and they need to permanently fix it but hey i am ok for now :)

They're all out of illuminated keyboards at the moment, I dunno if that's anything to do with this. (My M17 has been delayed for 3 days because of it T_T)

I wouldn't mind blue and green breaking though, all I'm going to use is red :D
