TBH i think that ppl have no clue of how shaders work![]()
-
you referring to me ?
-
Nop.
I'm talking about ppl who think that GTX280m is 20% better than GTX260m (specially in SLI).
Ppl don't know how shaders works and how it stacks.
Actually no game can use more than 100 shader so... GTX260m at same clock of GTX280m will be pretty much the same thing. -
So, I figure I'll say something since I work at Best Buy =P it only makes sense I guess. lol. But, I'm not too sure the Alienware will sell too well, The only reason I'm thinking this is because of the price it is for the specs. Alot of people will probably look at ASUS G51, and G71 since they both have the gtx 260m in it, and its half the price of the Alienware. Don't get me wrong I love Alienware, and I bought the m17x and love it. But, I think they really have to give this thing sli so it would make people see the value in it, cause the only real thing that separates it from ASUS is the quad core. But, I do alot of people will be happy with Best Buy carrying Alienware cause we do get alot of customers asking about them. We carried the Aurora PC for awhile, and many people wanted it cause of its looks, but we didnt sell alot of them because of its price. That PC was $1,800, and we had a Gateway FX right on the side of it with and i7 and crossfired 4870's for $500 less. This is the only reason I think that Alienware should spec this up a little more.

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Those G51s and G71s are not without their faults though. G51 has GPU not fully sunk into the heatsink while the G71 has a GTX 260M that downclocks after reaching a certain temp.
-
That is true, I've noticed that on the ASUS computers. In alot of ways the m17x is a better computer, the people just have to notice what they're paying for. I think what everyone is saying on here is a good point. It needs the 1200p screen, it looks alot better on the 17" display. But' they'll most likely change it, cause the gateway fx laptop we used to carry had the same screen, and after afew weeks they started the send out the 1200p screens instead. So, I can see this happening as well.

I was told By a BB employee when buying a BB laptop most if not all warranty and support issues goto BB and not Dell. I am not sure about Alienware laptops since they are new to BB. Correct me if Im wrong but this came from a BB manager.
-
Assass1n would you be able to tell me when the M17x display models are due to come out? I just want a visual feel to temper my waiting for the supposed ATI edition. Oh BTW as a former electronic salesmen myself for K-Mart I have to imagine you guys are wetting your pants a little bit over getting to have an Alienware laptop on display for once ;P
-
i also work for best buy, right now i checked the bby system and i know my store will not carry it in store. as of right now i know the website says online only. no telling if my store will actually carry it
-
so how many of these will be absolutely ruined by the geek squad?
-
well if they get them in stores about half! if there online none of them will be touched!
-
The config they offer sucks and you can't update it.
-
thats because only "joe 6pack" will buy it from there
-
Or one of the impatient buyers in the "order status" thread who just can't wait 21 days to have their laptop built and want it NOW NOW NOW.
-
LMAO been 11 days and still building
-
they've changed the specifications now, am sure this thread got em' good
-
^^
Yes they did!
The BB model is a darn good deal, IMO. Q9000, SLI 260's, and 500GB 7.2k RPM.
Configured at Dell it is $2424. So you save $323 by getting it thru BB at $2099.
I am REALLY shocked that it is cheaper at BB as I have never seen ANYTHING cheaper at BB!!!
-
And of course it's on backorder there. They must be selling like hotcakes.
It's too bad it doesn't come with the high res screen though. -
Too bad Dell cannot offer pre-configured editions at a lower cost. That would definitely help their sales and probably take some steam away from the BB edition. Well, a boy can dream can't he?
-
I was right about the vga lalala
Too bad that's not 1200p
-
I tried to get Dell to pricematch their own system but the sales rep said they don't pricematch their retail partners...
Seriously, W TF Dell??
This is madness.. The rep tried to tell me that it is preconfigured vs. customized. So I guess we pay $350 more to "customize" the same spec'd system BB is selling. lol
I'm gonna try my rep next week and hopefully someone with some common sense will let me pricematch it. -
So your getting it again now?
-
When I first saw the thread title I thought of Big Brother hehe
-
OF course I am
I want to know if this is possible because if you add the savings from BB (if Dell will pricematch) then throw on the 7+3% via EPP/DPA...
Your looking at a DARN good price! I will wait until end of July to order like I originally planned.
I was going to order then regardless if the ATI cards were out or not, remember? -
It just sounded like you were going to get it now.
-
Not yet... I am trying to scheme on how to come up with better deals...lol
That way, when it's time, I'll know I tried to get the best deal possible
I suppose if I could get the BB deal thru Dell with the 10% off I might jump back on the bandwagon just because it would be a steal... -
They are selling pre-configured editions through Best Buy. Alienware wouldn't be selling them that way if they weren't making money. A couple pre-configured choices would be cool though.
-
I agree. Especially with some extra e-codes that could save us some moola. (Hey, $50 is a start). I just hope they have some more "specials" like that. My EPP sales guy told me he would price match the e-code and still give me free shipping. Still trying to decide between re-ordering or waiting for M15x refresh. (decisions, decisions)
-
Yeah it makes sense when you think about it. If you customize it, they have to read over it and then build it. Best Buy comes in a says give us a million laptops with these specs. There is no difference between them and they can give them a discount because they bought in bulk and they want the same thing a million times. Nobody has to review the custom order for it.
Also, I'm sure this has been asked several times, but how well would this perform at modern games? I'm very interested in this laptop from everything I've read. And those of you with the 1440x900 screen, is it a good resolution because I'm always out to get the highest resolution possible but this is price that is too hard to give up. Oh yeah, battery life is another thing I'm interested in because I know you can switch to the 9400M to save battery life and I was wondering how long the battery does last. -
3 hours on 9400m
1440 is a nice res
i've used it and i don't mind it ... -
Eh, I highly doubt the epp+dpa will stack with the price-match haggle (if you manage to get it)... it just seems... too good. Plus, they might say that you have to stick with that pre-config also.
-
ok... so it does have dual 260??? yeah!!!!
-
Thanks mate.
-
Now AW is not perfect but keeping 2 companys seperate is a wise idea to say the least
-
True, but let me know when you find a perfect company.
