Well I have the m17X R2 on order but found the Asus at Newegg for $1000 less. The Asus has more memory and better graphics. The AW I ordered has an I7 820. (see my sig) What can possibly justify this price difference?
Heres the Asus CLICK
Thanks

unless your going to get a 2 card or a 5870 from RJtech then get the Asus
-
yes i agree with moo the only thing that puts the m17x over the asus is the rgb led and the ability to put xfire in it. The price point in the asus is just to sweet to pass up.
-
Better screen
Crossifre
Easier to upgrade
Get the Asus for better portability and quieter fans. -
Agreed though there's one thing Asus did that I really like and it's the inclusion of the TDP limit remover. Wish Dell took a bold step like that though the chances of that happening are as good as me winning the lotto. -
I honestly think they forgot that they had it in there since the system was never meant to havea 920 in it ....
Easter EGG ! -
Speaking of TDP limits I'm getting my new PS today. We'll see if I can make it smoke later.
-
Hmm...something to think about...
so i won't have to worry about heat issues with the asus?
Thanks Guys -
Ive stopped buying asus because of the low build quality and false advertisement of the F3Sv.
Say what you want, but the alienware laptop is the best built laptop I have ever used. Also, the looks are awesome. Also, once you actually get through to somebody who cares, the customer support is really good.
Finally, alienware is kinda like macs. The price of the laptop is higher than in other laptop with comparable specs, but it makes up with the built quality and overall wow factor. -
I can't seem to find the G73 on the Asus USA site. I can only find a G71.

I have a ul30vt. The build quality is utterly horrible.
If build quality is a concern, go AW all the way. For pure performance/price ratio, get the Asus. It's a fine laptop. I just hate the utterly cheap way Asus builds their laptops.
The ul30vt has horrible keyboard flex, it's a fingerprint magnet on a level I've never seen before, the bottom left lip of the case overhangs and makes a clicking noise when pressed on, etc.
Plus, the plastics Asus uses just look, well, cheap. Meh. -
Only saw Nvidia cards at rjtech -
-
look at Xoctic pc google it its on that site.

One other thing that went into my decision to go Alienware instead of the Asus. The Asus does not have USB 3.0 or eSATA. While Alienware doesn't have USB 3.0 either, it does have an expresscard slot. The Asus does not. If you think you will be buying a computer that you plan on using for a couple of years, the Asus does not have an upgrade path. I know it doesn't matter to some people because they change computers more often than their underwear (not sure if this is a techie thing or just bad hygene). But I spend a lot of money on a computer and plan to use it for 3+ years (current 9300 is coming up on 5 years). USB 3.0 is out, deviceswill really start showing their faces in the next 12 months. If you think you will need 3.0 and don't intend to buy a whole new computer, the Asus is the wrong way to go. The lack of an eSATA port on the Asus is just stupid. It should have gotten one of the combined USB/eSATA ports.

Good points -
asus has really good warranty though. well for US it does. 2 years warranty and 1 year accidental free. alieware laptops aren't always the best build either. the 1st generation m15x and m17x had horrible build quality. the all powerful build quality is the best i've ever seen in any laptop. so it really comes down to the $$$. if you can afford it, get the alienware. if you plan on upgrading laptops every year, get an asus.
-
wow..the asus is really looking better and better to me now
I've just been told by my AU rep, that from now on no more discounts will be allowed on alienware systems ( we used to get 10% off the bat)....and we still have that huge delay for rgb screens and what not....i think dell just lost themselves a customer -
-
I find it funny that people say AW has great build quality when a ton of us owner are stuck with a beautiful laptop that cost an arm and a leg but has problems that Dell can't seem to fix....
I have the ASUS coming. If I like it the Alienware is going on the bay.. -

I personally had great experiment with my R1 so it comes down to build quality and overall look when someone's trying to do the Alienware vs. Asus (let alone dual graphic). I'm willing to spend some more money to get a laptop that have bragging valueD) as well as "love to look at it" value. The happiness I get from those values eases the pain of paying premium for an Alienware
When it comes down to M17x R2 vs G73, RGB screen alone is enough for me to make my choice despite that I will have an external display soon or later.
I have never owned an Asus but from looking at Asus G51 in BestBuy I know for sure I don't want to have one eventhough the price is tempting.
I'm kinda person who always try to maximize performance/cost ratio in everything I need but that doesn't apply for Alienware since it's was my dream when I was a baby lol.
@ OP: Get CF if you go for a R2 -
) where the screen literally just goes gray and hangs up in the middle of a game. Plus with the more graphic intense games the GPU is hitting 95C. I've never seen the GSOD myself but I have seen the 95C temps.
Plus coming from the M17x build quality will seem worse to you than the average buyer. -
I would say if you can't get the M17x-R2 for ≤ $2,000 with i7, RGB LED, and Crossfire, get the Asus. It's just a question about value for me since both machines are great.
-
Isn't this the wrong question to ask on a AW forum? Because the answer will always be in favour of the AW (and justified
) because AW owners will defend their purchase.
My 2 cents. -

Well I can't blame him, it's a fine piece of equiptment (The M17x R1 and R2)! -

Asus does everything right except for build quality. That's really my only point. They offer excellent performance for what you pay for, just don't expect your Asus to take a bullet for you like my m17x would.
Mine doubles as a breast plate. =P -
Depending on how much longer the delay is for the M17X R2 I may have no choice, to order an ASUS from newegg and get it 2 days.
I need something "yesterday" to do some 3d work on. -
Congratulations... My order is still waiting untill my insurance finally pays up. I also can't wait to have another M17x in my possesion.
I never regretted the purchase of the M17x-R1! Hopefully your not going to regret it either! -
Many can attest in the Asus forum that their $1500+ G series notebook have exceptional build quality. -
-
M17x's CPU heatsink + fan is inadequate for the 920xm. My temps peak at 82C using OCCT while the back of the notebook is propped up. If I let it sit flat on the desk, temps hit 89C! I reapplied the paste 3 times just to make sure it wasn't a bad paste job. It's the paper thin copper they used for the CPU heatpipes, they simply cannot absorb the heat fast enough. I'm going to be adding copper to the heatpipe once my replacement mx-3 gets here. -
-
I've owned an 8690 before, the heatpipes are much thicker than what's found on Alienware. -

So the OP ordered an M17x lol.
And doesn't his nickname tell it all in the first place? AwHw = Alienware Hardware lol -
I had a M15X for a few days and returned...the screen was way too small for AutoCad and Revit. I din't realize it was going to be a problem when I ordered it.
The reason I asked about the Asus was due to these delays and the price. -
so you didn't realize a 15" laptop will have a 15" screen, lol just pulling your chain man.
-
-
If the M15x had RGB LED, I'd have never switched. I loved mine.
-
Performance=Asus G73JH-X1(Unless your comparing a customized M17x)
Value=Asus G73JH-X1
Looks=Alienware M17x -
Well I ordered the Asus G73JH-A1 with blur ray and 2 500gigs
It should ship Begining of march.
Whatever one is ready first is the one I will keep.
The M17X in my sig for 2500 total
or
The G73-A1 for around 1600 shipped -
Buy both, get frustrated, dump both into a river, hurl that river into space, buy Clevo, be happy
After so many hours, switching to ATIs, than twice as many to the R2 switch....to realize we have another issue here.
OK, what else should the potential R2 owners be wary about?
