i can't quite follow you, vikas... they charge 650$ for a RAM kit that costs less than 300$ (from G.Skill).

There any word on current users getting free 64-bit support? Well, actually findvikas has most of it covered. I'm just wondering about a free 64-bit license since I read somewhere that our OEM versions do not qualify us for it? Any chance that would change? :D

The key that you receive for whatever version of your OS (Be it Home Basic Home Premium Ultimate etc.) licenses you for 32 and 64 bit.

Is there any official word on this? Not that I don't believe you, but I'll need it. I'm very interested in 64-bit.

I emailed Alienware customer service, asking if it's possible for them to provide support ( CD for installing and drivers )for us earlier customers to upgrade to a 64 Bit OS.

This is the reply I got:

    Dear Mr. *********,

    Thank you for contacting Alienware.

In regard to your inquiry, unfortunately we are not currently offering this upgrade. You can purchase Windows Vista Ultimate on a retail store, however, we will be unable to support it.

If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me or our Customer Service Department at 0800-279-9751, Monday - Friday from 8:00 A.M. - 20:00 P.M. GMT. We will gladly assist you.

    Thank you for choosing Alienware.

I just find it odd that they won't support this upgrade, but they're actually selling m15x units with 64 Bit OS's.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought they'd say. I was hoping it would have changed by now but unfortunately it hasn't. :( The OEM license does not support the alternate bit version apparently.

Ennea, yes it does. They just don't want to support your OS.

If you can line up the drivers for your M15x, which I think you can, Vista 64 will work flawlessly with your cdkey. Do you have a Vista 32 bit CD with an Alienware OEM build that came with your PC? If so it's possible to actually copy the liscence files from that disc and slipstream it into a vista64 disk for Home Premium. Looks like you're even running Vista Ultimate so just call microsoft and ask for a 64bit cd.

I would assume that you'd be better off contacting Microsoft.

I HAVE WRITTEN THIS A MILLION AND 1 times!

lol, AW told me the reason they are not supporting the upgrade YET, is because they are delayed with software, and they cant release the upgrade, unless they can release the support disk, as well. They told me they would DEFFINATLY send me both as soon as it comes out... (she said maybe a couple of weeks...)

It's good to see that they're not trying to screw some customers by disabling the 8gb option when you select a 32 bit OS.

Wait so the M15X motherboard actually supports 8GB?? I thought 4GB was the max due to motherboard limitations? or did they upgrade the motherboard

that is what they told me "NO charge".....

i dont even care if i had to pay for S&H, and knowing AW, they probably will come up with another fee like "service" lol..but still that is what they told me...they told me their was no timeframe on the release but probably by the end of the month
