I hear that the new AWs might be coming out soon, so I made a wishlist. (suited to my needs)

I find my current m17xr3 with the 580m and a ssd to be powerful enough (go figure), so what I want is:

    • A better screen
    • A better battery life
    • Lighter (if possible)

Take a page out of Apple's Retina MBP lineup. They have excellent screens!

    Hope someone is listening.

Feel free to add your wishlist in the comments below.

Hoping for a 14" with a 970M (980M would just be too good to be true I guess)

Same as Brynhild. All I want is a 970M (or if possible a 980M) on the alienware 14.
The screen of the alienware is very good already (Very good IPS display). For a gaming laptop of 14 inch you don't need a higher resolution then 1080p imho. Higher res gaming is Very demanding and also there is barely any movie/ video content higher then 1080p.
The only update in terms of screen I want to see is an OLED monitor screen, but it seems like that is going to take a while for such laptops to release. I prefer a better contrast ratio then higher resolution/frame rate. That is why I HATE TN-panels.

For the rest. Satisfied with every single thing of the alienware 14. Perhaps a s/pdif optical audio out would have been nice, but the 3x 3,5mm jacks does suffice.

Oh and the alienware 17 has a TN panel which I HATE. both alienware 14 and 18 have a great IPS panel.

-Upgradable CPU/GPU's and a big enough PSU to allow massive overclocking
    -Unlocked BIOS
    -1440p display
    -Overkill power

    Wait... let's be more specific.
For a new flagship model I'd like:

    -x99 DDR4
    -Dual GPU's
    -Bigger PSU
    -1440p 120hz - Gsync optional
    -Unlocked BIOS
    -Overkill power

Ditto on that wish list...

I'll add, fix all of the existing Alienware 18's power-related performance deficiencies or exchange them outright.

This right here! I so want to get a m18xr2 just so I can stack 3 hdds in one bay, toss one in the odd spot and push in a msata drive and im golden... 5 hdds :)

But really I think for storage alienware needs to start looking at the smaller form factor drives. msata and m.2 drives that some of the other companies are running. With current 2.5 drives at 2tb, you can use 4 msata drives, plus a single 2.5 storage drive... You get a super fast raid ssd, plus a big storage drive.

ssd drives will only get cheaper and faster, time to start taking control of them and getting customers used to running multiple in a raid setup.

if u want light thin notebooks, there are many others, so change brand! :)

i must say my alienware 14 (last model) it s perfect under every aspect, i cant ask more. The screen is better than what i could dream.

The only big problem with the new alienware notebooks it s about the different aesthetics : they are too different from Aurora, X-51 , tactX mouse TactX keyboard and OptX monitor.

the solution it s not changing the notebook, but releasing new Tactx stuff

On the PSU front, a more capable one is always desirable. However working on making them not literal bricks is also an amiable goal. It can definitely be done, you just have to actually damn about engineering in the part.

All of the above plus dual or even triple mSATA. How about quad mSATA and ditch one of the HDDs and bring back the media buttons and a new design that does not look too outlandish but not as bland as the current AW17. Decent cooling with the ability to run almost silent when NOT under load.

Is triple or quad mSATA even possible and if so why isn't anyone doing it?

Having more AMD GPU options for those that prefer that brand would be good. Actually, I'd like to see a fully customizable build system. FULLY. I get to choose each element as we go through the process, so I can mix and match components with an eye to the kind of performance and price that I want for full flexibility. If that raises the build time, I'm totally willing to wait in order to get the system that matches my needs and constraints.

Also bring back the older styling and bring back a choice of colors for the chassis. Who wants a Ferrari without a great paint job and leather seats?

MSI had the "super raid" setup that runs 3 msata drives on the gt70 laptops. THats why I put it on my list on the first page. Alienware could very easy ditch one hdd bay and cram 4 msata drives into it. stack them like ram slots and you can fit 4 in the size of a standard hdd. Just think of a 4tb raid of ssd goodness.... then a 2 tb bulk storage drive. Even 4 256gb msata drives in raid there would be nuts.

I know you can pack 7 msata drives into the current alienware 17, but you have to buy the dual msata 2.5 inch enclosures. It raids 2 msata drives together to make a single 2.5 inch drive, not sure what the speeds are on them though.
