I'm wondering what other AW users have upgraded their bluetooth mpci-e cards for upgraded BT or other uses (BT/WiFi/sim card/other cards)

Unfortunately I haven't ran across many others experiences with their AW's on utilising the secondary mpcie slot aka wpan. There is a case of adding WWAN that again wasn't pnp here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/551820-added-3g-wwan-connection-m15x.html

Or is everyone pretty content with stock BT ?

My stock Dell 375 BT module does everything I need it to, so yes, very content with it.

I had kicked around the idea of adding wirless HD to that extra slot, but the parts are too expensive for something I might rarely use. For those that actually use their LCD TV for gaming and what-not, that would be a great use of it. Not sure why Alienware stopped offering that configuration option to those that want it.

That's a great idea for an otherwise useless empty mini-PCI-e slot. I may have to grab one of those. Thanks for the suggestion!

I suppose you only need to snip off the portion that is too long to fit it the available space.

Edit: duh... pull your head out, Fox... "Supports both full and half size Mini Card slots are supported by removing extra full-size extensions."

Nice idea and one that'd not invalidate your warranty. If you pick up one please let us know what AW you have and if it works..

I will report back to this thread, when it arrives i will let you know. the only qualm i have right now is weather or not it will support the full 5v usb power or only the gimped 3.3v, although it wouldnt be the card's fault it would be the slot's fault. but im taking a jump and hopefully it all works out. like i said ill post back my findings

I know this is ancient, but i was going through my history, and saw i forgot to post. But Yes, this does work so hopefully anyone thinking of doing this will be able to knowing that it works. I ended up using it as a secondary usb bluetooth for my ps3 controller. works quite well.

    Thanks for posting!

I found the adapter on ebay here: Mini PCI-E Card to USB 2.0 Adapter Card

Along the same lines as your ps3 controller, I have a bluetooth mouse dongle for my mouse plugged outside my new 17. I can't figure out how to use the mouse without the dongle (manufacturer issue i think)

I might just take out the bluetooth card in my laptop and put this in there... thoughts?
